Perfect for newbie juicers!
By Desert Mermaid on Reviewed in the United States on November 25, 2023
Brand-new juicer here! I love fruits and vegetables and they are crucial for health, but because of my IBS I can't consume as much as I would like. After some research I decided to try juicing as a way to get the nutrients I need in an easier-to-digest way. This juicer got great reviews and was reasonably priced so I decided to give it a try and am so happy I did! Pros: 1. Simple to assemble: you just put the pieces together and everything locks together with a couple of latches. Easy peasy lemon-squeezy! 2. Extracts a lot of juice: this little machine does its job...I can't believe how much juice these veggies actually contain (especially carrots, cucumbers, and romaine lettuce)! And the leftover pulp is nice and fine so it can be incorporated into protein-heavy recipes like meatloaf or meatballs to add a dose of fiber and nutrients without altering the taste or texture of the dish. 3. Comes with a juice container that has the perfect size pour spout that doesn't spill the juice everywhere (I make big batches of juice to freeze, so this makes it way easier to pour it into the ice trays). 4. Is super easy to use: I thought juicing would be much more difficult, but you just wash the veggies and cut them into a small enough size to fit through the veggie chute and that's it. 5. Easy to clean: disassembles easily. It says the pieces are top rack dishwasher safe, but TBH I find it easier to hand wash everything. 6. Affordable: I've never juiced before and didn't want to break the bank buying some boujee juicer when I wasn't even sure that juicing was something I'd be able to stick with. This one had a great price point, especially for a name brand appliance. I thought I'd use this one a few times and "upgrade" later if I liked juicing. But TBH this one does everything I want so upgrading is completely unnecessary. Cons: 1. The little cutter/strainer is a little difficult to clean. I wish it came with a little cleaning brush, but it's not really a big deal. I just soak it in the sink to loosen up all the debris which makes it easier. Some reviews mention that the pulp is a little bit juicy. This is true with softer produce like tomatoes or pineapple. My easy fix is to juice these items on their own (separate from harder items like carrots or cucumbers), then take the pulp out and run it back through the juicer again. Bottom line: I really love this little juicer and can't say enough good things about it!

It's the lowest priced model...

We've been juicing pretty seriously for about 6-months before I bought this model. It's my fault, I spoiled myself with the $300 model before I purchased this one. I needed a juicer to use in my travel trailer and at work. It is as large is it seems in the pictures, but well made, and ecstatically pleasing. First impressions after 2-days of use with only apples and oranges: The cup that comes with juicer is relatively small compared to other models, but the juicer is not. The pulp does come out somewhat wet (meaning all of the juice is not extracted). Although the cutting blade is very small, it does do a very good job. The juice itself, probably due to the size of the small cup, has very little pulp or froth in it. This is a good thing depending on your personal taste. I found it strange that more pulp is stuck in the blade area than in the actual pulp catcher. Pros: For such an small inexpensive juicer, it does do its job. Kind of like buying a small economy car; why would you expect more of it? Large pulp container, very easy to clean, and easy to assemble and disassemble. Tricks to cleaning the blade; use a brush with tooth brush like bristles. Most more expensive models come with this. I also agree with other reviewers, what needed to be included was a pulp scraper. If you are thinking of juicing or you don't juice often, this is a perfect model for you. Cons: The very tiny hole that you drop the produce into is just way too small. I mean frustratingly small! With other juicers the device has to be running in order to drop your produce in. With this model, if you do that, the inlet is so narrow and shallow that the produce simply darts back out and splats on the farthest part of your ceiling that you can never seem to reach. I personally don't mind cutting my produce up somewhat, but due to the narrowness of the inlet, I have to almost mince it. For a "quick" juice in the morning, I would not suggest this model-the preparation part is somewhat grueling compared to other models. It you have the time and patience, this is the one however. In closing, is it serving my purpose? Somewhat. Since I work in close quarters, I need a small juicer. Although it appears that way, it is no smaller than any other juicer. Aside from that, not only have I added a juicer, but now a cutting board, a knife, a knife sharpener, a scrub brush, a larger cup, etc, etc. For $30 more I could probably avoid this. Just my two cents.

What can I say? It's Black and Decker! Fantastic quality. Amazing price. Bought two, gave one to my daughter, who's the real juicing nut! Takes about 10 seconds to figure out how to take it apart, and after that, it is a piece of cake. In addition to the juice cup, the fiber cup and the pusher, there are only 3 parts to rinse off: the body, the clear top, and the blade. It takes less than a minute to get everything perfectly clean, though I do spend a few extra seconds making sure the blade is clean because I read elsewhere that it will last forever if you keep it clean--If you're going to toss it in the dishwasher, make sure you clean the blade first. I use a stainless scrub pad and briefly rub over the inside and the outside under running water. The kind I use comes in a 3 pack at the dollar store, it's just a bunch of woven metal links. Not brillo. (I'm going to try the toothbrush method on it and see which works better. Might ask some knife professionals to see which method is best for blade longevity. ) No sponges are harmed in the cleaning of the blade and it's been very gentle to my fingers too-it's almost like a little colander. But I would not want to face it as a carrot or a tomato! Works great. You do have to cut items up to fit in the hole, but I do that anyway, because I take out the seeds. Even apple seeds have cyanide. I don't think that's a particularly healthy addition to juice! Peach pits, cherry pits, and apricot pits are also to be avoided. I don't go overboard, but just avoid putting most seeds in that one would not normally eat. Better to be safe than sorry. And careful about tossing in the peel. Go organic and scrub scrub scrub if you're consuming the peel, because PEEL is what absorbs pesticides. Plus peel (like orange peel) tastes vile. Just test one tiny section, find out for yourself. Some things, like carrots can do double duty. Sure, drink the juice, but you can also make carrot muffins, or use the fiber in carrot cake. But you can't go overboard with the fiber. You'll learn. My first attempts to make use of the fiber was in a soup, and the fiber turned into a giant sponge! A cup or two of assorted veggie fiber sucked up several cups of soup. The only caution I have is that you should pay attention where the juice cup is. The first time I used it, I knocked the cup out of the way, and lost about a tablespoon of juice because the cup wasn't there to catch it. That's not a leak-it's just being klutzy. It's a small cup. If you fill it a couple of times, you might want to dump the fiber container too, but it is plenty big enough that I haven't had to do that yet, even while I've been trying to perfect my own v-8. Whether or not you try one of those trendy fasts, it's really a great way to bring variety into the diet. I am SO impressed.

I've been using this juicer now for 5 days and have formed a pretty solid opinion of it. I was a little leery of purchasing such an inexpensive juicer since my only previous experience was with a big honker Breville Juice Fountain which is a real beast. But this little guy is impressing me. Now bear in mind that this guy cost me about 20% of what my Breville did 15 years ago, my expectations were lowered accordingly. But I have been pleasantly surprised by how well this compact juicer works. Of course as has been noted in almost every review, the feed chute is pretty small - tiny if you're used to one like the Breville that will take a small apple whole. But once you get used to chopping things into reasonable size before juicing, it works at about 90% of the efficiency of the Breville. Taking into consideration the less powerful motor, I feed harder veggies like carrots and sweet potatoes pretty slowly, but as far as how much juice is extracted it holds its own. It is less efficient on softer fruits and veggies like cucumber or citrus since there is no speed adjustment and it chews through them perhaps too quickly, but again it works pretty darn well for the price. Yes, it does tend to have a little bit of an odor like the motor is being over-taxed when juicing hard veggies but so far it hasn't caused a failure or slowdown in performance. I hope it's not an indication that the motor just isn't up to the task, but if it lasts me a year juicing once or twice a day I think I will have gotten my money's worth. So if you don't mind spending an extra 5 minutes or so chopping things into smaller pieces (the chute is u-shaped, like smile, and is about 2-3 cm wide and about 5-6 cm across) it does the job pretty well. As far as cleaning, it is very comparable to the Breville (the basic design is very similar). Just plan on spending about 5-10 minutes cleaning everything off after every use (and half of that is scrubbing the extractor with a toothbrush to get everything out of the strainer). If you're on the fence about getting into juicing and looking for an inexpensive way to get started, I think the Black & Decker JE2200B is a solid choice - you can always pick up a new or used Breville later if you find you really like it and/or you're doing a LOT more juicing than the average person. And if you're in a REAL hurry to get started or just want to check one out in person, I found that my local Wal-Mart has them on the shelf so you might check that out (but you will pay a little more vs. Amazon). Added October 7th: I have been using this juicer once or twice a day now for almost a month and my opinion hasn't changed much. The initial smell when juicing went away after about the second week which leads me to believe it was some kind of extra lubricant in the motor that was burning off. Didn't ever effect the taste of the juice, it just smelled like the motor was burning up but obviously that wasn't the case as it still works good. As others have noted, there is some discoloration to the black plastic bits that regularly come into contact with the juice, especially under the juicing blades/strainer part (the part that spins). This also happened on my other juicer and I think it is due to staining from the veggies like beets, carrots and sweet potatoes that have a lot of color in their juice. Another issue that some reviewers have noted is that the basket seems to get a little "unbalanced" over time and shakes the juicer around a bit (and make a loud noise) as it is slowing down after you shut it off. Again, it hasn't seemed to effect performance and it is not hitting the sides of the juicing piece so I'm not too concerned, just hang onto it as it's stopping. So far it has served me well considering the use it has seen and hopefully it will last me until I either get bored of juicing or step up to a larger, more powerful machine. At this stage I would still recommend it to anyone wanting to try out juicing without making a huge initial investment (save your money for your fruits and veggies and a good knife).

I have been researching juicers for several months, as I regularly purchase fresh vegetable and fruit juices from my neighborhood health food market and truly believe in the curative powers of fresh, organic juices. I was really worried about purchasing a juicer for this price, but trusted the other customer reviews and went for it. I just received it today and could not wait to try it out. I made 4 glasses of fresh squeezed fruit and veggie juice and cannot believe how well this little juicer works! Yes, you must cut the fruits and vegetables into smaller pieces and cannot stuff an entire carrot into the juicer, but for a couple or individual who is not producing gallons of juice a day, you cannot beat this juicer for the price. I am amazed at how efficient it is. I made 2 glasses of juice with one large carrot, one apple, a piece of ginger and 2 stalks of celery. Clean up is easy. If you purchase this product, pick up a little brush or buy a new, firm toothbrush to clean the blades in between juicing. It is compact and tucks away in my pantry when not in use. I am so glad that I trusted other Amazon Customers and purchased this juicer. I am really looking forward to all of the new juice recipes that I can create. Cheers to Healthy 2013! Update: 1-25-13: Okay, We have been using this product daily since I received it. We are absolutely thrilled with our purchase. We make a quart of organic juice daily, using all sorts of fresh fruits and veggies. It takes approximately 15 minutes for the total process, washing and chopping produce, juicing, and cleaning juicer. Our favorite juice is made with 4-5 organic carrots, 1 organic apple, 1 large chunk of ginger root, 4-5 stalks organic celery, 1/2 large organic cucumber, 1 handful organic parsley, 1 organic lime (with most of peel taken off), Organic Kale (4-5 large leafs). I call this Goddess Garden Goddess Juice. It is absolutely delicious. In fact, we enjoy the juice from this Juicer more than juice from an industrial juicer at our local health food store. The pulp is small and dry, which indicates to me that the juicer is very effective. I use the pulp to create compost for my garden. Clean up is a breeze as long as you clean the blade basket right after juicing. If the pulp dries in the basket, a little more scrubbing with a brush is required. If you clean immediately after juicing it is a simple process. I use a utility brush to clean the blade basket, rinse the other parts and put them on the top shelf on my dishwasher. I would recommend this Juicer to anyone who plans on juicing 1-3 times per day. I have suggested it for several of my co-workers and friends who I shared juice with and were so impressed that they asked about the juicer and was it expensive. They were so surprised to discover it is less than $40. Highly recommended.

I read a lot of reviews on this little guy. There are so many of them. I noticed that it had (forgive me, I don't remember exactly) over 4 stars. So despite some of the negative reviews, I went ahead and ordered it. After all, I told myself that it only had to last 7 days, through my 7 day cleans. The price for this juice extractor + organic fruit and veggies was less the buying a 7 day supply of juice (for the purpose of a cleans) from whole foods. I've had it for 3 weeks now and am in love with it still. I did the hard core juice fast and will admit that the opening for putting the veggies and fruit through IS a little small. Not a problem for me. I just cut the fruit to the appropriate size. And also, it is not enjoyable to clean. But any juicer would have that problem. If you have a dishwasher then I think you could skip that as a problem all together. I used it 4 or 5 times a day for the first 5 days, and 2-4 times for the next few days. I still use it. I've moved on to smoothies now, but still use the juicer to juice my orange and pineapple. I add it to my strawberry, blueberry, banana, spinach smoothies. I didn't think I would like juicing this much, and I didn't think this little juicer would do as good a job as it has. I guess every one has different standards. And if you are willing/able to pay much more then you could get a bump up in quality. For me, I don't need anything more, and am beyond pleased with this product. Not all the pulp is dry as a bone, some of it is. It depends on what you are juicing. Things that didn't work out so well: pears and watermelon. Lots of juice from the watermelon, but the pulp was dripping wet, and pears...maybe it was just my pears, but they didn't really juice, as much as foamy pulp like stuff instead of juice. Carrots, celery, garlic, tomatoes, apples, oranges...basically everything I put through this thing, it could handle and deliver. Leaves were tricky at first. Like basil and spinach but I put a bunch though in between what ever else I was juicing. (like a carrot or tomato, or celery) and it solved the problem. I recommend this any one basically. Sure, if you have more money, then go ahead and spend it. You may have a slightly more convenient experience, but I doubt your finished product will be any better.

I Looove this! For a cheap juicer, this is amazing and I've had one in the past that has cost over 100.....to be honest, I don't even remember if the juice was slightly more liquidy but I don't think it was. I much rather this cheaper one and some people mentions that the passageway to put the fruits and veggies and is tiny, Will big deal in most cases don't you cut the fruit anyway? I always remember cutting it to some extent when I used to use an expensive juicer...so yes it is tiny but big deal it's part of the prep if you wanted less expensive one, well worth the sacrifice! I also had $100 Neutra bullet in that thing stinks, it was advertised is pulverizing the juice so it is fine well the kids hate it and don't like the texture. My son loves fruit but he basically eats broccoli and corn on occasion in those the only veggies he will do...u til now!! I haven't even looked up a good recipe, I have just put in what we've had. The kids absolutely love putting the veggies in, it is safe even if they stuck their fingers in it would not reach but obviously I'm right there anyway they don't stick their fingers in. I cut up the fruit, they put it in and I push it down. They get to see how we are making our juice and then they get to drink it and they love it. I like veggies but even I would not have had all of this this morning: two carrots, an apple, an orange, two mini cucumbers, half a pineapple and a bunch of spinach leaves....but this morning this is what we all had! Years ago when I had an expensive juicer I never liked all the waist, so I was excited about the Neutra bullet and thought I would get to drink more...then we don't end up using it in my son hates it to....I guess for the occasional frozen smoothie it's okay, but we don't really want to drink that every day...you want fresh juice with no pulp. So at least the access from the juicer will make a good compost pile, and it is definitely keeping us taking in more fruits and veggies than we normally would. I love it, well worth the price. Sometimes people get kitchen appliances and find that they don't use them all that much, like me with the nutra bullet, however this low investment it is so worth the price and it's a compact size so it's great who wants his large bulky thing on the counter. So happy with this buy!!!!!!!! Was nervous about going with the cheapest one I could find because I did not have the extra money, but I am so happy I got this one and am loving the juice. Strong motor, can handle any of it. You may have to cut the stuff so it fits but it's not a lot of extra chops, and it's not like you have to finely cut things up or something....I just do like four chops and the carrots and toss them in!
Quiet, low cost juicer, but it seems to have lost it's oomph after 2-3 months.

UPDATE: I must add that within 2-3 months of using almost daily, the basket did indeed begin leaking juice over the sides, wasting precious, pricey juice. I don't know what happened, as I'm very careful with my appliances, but perhaps it's simply the daily use of removing & replacing the basket multiple times, which seemed to leave it a bit crooked at the top. Honestly, when I first got the machine, the basket was so tight, it was almost impossible to remove, so perhaps I had a faulty unit or that's what one gets with an inexpensive juicer? Also, at the same time, the veggie pulp began being filled with juice (so I didn't get dry pulp, but more like stew), so much more than before that I did notice I wasn't getting a full glass of juice & my trash needed to be taken out immediately... even though I threw the pulp into layers of newspapers & double plastic bagged it... otherwise it would leak red beet juice through the plastic garbage bags & drip. In fact, before I noticed it the 1st time, it ruined a long kitchen runner. Very, very disappointing. It's been packed away for 6-mos, as all of my belongings are in storage, but I will try it again once settled. If it's still leaking or not extracting juice properly, I'll discard the machine or perhaps donate it to the Goodwill. I'll update once that happens. Maybe there is a reason people invest in $$$ juice extractors. Discouraging, as I thought I had a goldmine deal & genuine bargain here. We'll see... *** Below is my original review, unedited, but I downgraded my rating from 5 stars to 2, because I expected last longer than 3-mos. *** You can surely trust previous reviewers... this juicer is fantastic! I just began juicing again to boost my immune system & hopefully, drop a few pounds & was a bit trepidatious about a low-cost, basic model, but I wanted fresh, not bottled or canned, for maximum nutrients. The allure was that it's budget friendly & the reviews are great, so I decided to trust the Black & Decker name. Glad I did! It does not jump around or slide at all when in use & I even use it on a bar towel to catch any spills (which you'd think would make it slippery... not so)... a previous $44 Oster needed to be placed on a non-slip rubber pad & it still jumped about like a 5-yr old on a sugar cookie high. In all fairness, that Oster was purchased 25-yrs ago, so perhaps they've all improved over time or I just had a wonky unit. Also, it's QUIET... so unlike my last, which sounded like an outboard motor on my counter top. This model is not a little quiet... it's COMPLETELY quiet. My cheap Oster blender makes 10 times the noise of this baby. Liquid also doesn't seep over from anywhere (yep, you guessed it, a problem with the previous, but not the B&D). The best? I was afraid I wouldn't be able to make early morning, fresh juice without rattling the tenants underneath me out of bed at 5am, but it's so quiet, it's not a problem at all. I couldn't make early morning fruit smoothies for that reason alone. Also, it doesn't clog like my last or need to be emptied after just a few veggies. Honestly, I gave up on juicing because the last was so cumbersome, but I didn't realize it was the low performance juicer causing the problem. This is what I'd hoped a juicer would be... inexpensive, quiet & works quickly & well. **************************************************** Note: The following * paragraphs are a bit off-topic, but in the event it helps someone, I'll go on... feel free to skip to the end. **************************************************** * I haven't made fruit juice, as I prefer to eat fruit, but it would surely juice nicely as it's far less dense than vegs. I make vegetable juice twice/day (for the next few months, it will be my meal replacement) with 2-3 celery stalks/carrots/cabbage leaves, 4-6 Romaine lettuce leaves, 1 green pepper/beet/tomato, 1/2 cucumber, a handful of spinach & some cilantro. There's still plenty of room in the waste container (about 1/4 room left) if I wanted to use more vegs, but, this amount fills a pint beer glass nicely (12-oz), which is just enough for me to quickly drink down. * I also squeeze in the juice of 1 lemon & add a bit of cayenne pepper/tobasco directly into the glass for better taste. * I figured out it costs $4.50-5 for 12-oz juice using the mix of vegs listed above. 1/2 of the vegs are organic & 1/2 of the vegs are far too pricey to justify organic costs. Mine are all store bought for now... I will be finding farmer's markets asap to hopefully lower costs. Of course, if sticking to 1-2 vegs per juice, non-organic or if one has access to cheaper Costco/Sam's Club vegs, it wouldn't be so pricey. I somehow thought it would be far less expensive & honestly, I'm spending more for daily food than before (because I'm drinking juice for breakfast & lunch then eating a smaller portion of protein with 1 cooked veg for dinner). I usually eat salad daily, but with all the vegs I'm consuming, I have no craving for salad, just fish or lean beef. The benefit is I do feel better/healthier & in just a few days, it is quite addictive & I can't wait to drink my juice, like a Brit waiting for tea time. I thought weight would drop off by ingesting mostly low cal vegs, but not yet (to be fair, it's only day 3 & I'll be inactive for awhile due to an injury). Maybe I'll need to convert over to juice only for that to happen. * The veg fiber that catches in the container could be used for salsa, if desired. It's not so dry that every ounce of moisture is gone. I've seen some recipes online. But, as mentioned above, I sincerely doubt anyone would want to eat it if drinking veg juice alone for 2 meals/day. Still, if one has a family, it might be used with some seasoning for stuffing a tomato or as garnish for a burrito, etc, for the family, so as not to go to waste. * Clean up is easy, but I recommend doing it immediately. I just rinse the pieces in hot water & only use soap every 4th time, generally as there are veg remnants I can't remove. I bought a $1.50, hard bristle toothbrush at a discount store to clean the basket... it's the only part which needs to be scrubbed. A baby bottle cleaner works well, too, mainly as the bristles are very stiff... it's just a bit large & I get a lot of splashing, so I alternate between the 2. * As a last tip to those wishing for optimal health, please note that within 10-min, juice or even chopped vegs/fruits lose 40% of their nutrients. I have no idea how degraded they become if stored for hours/days in the fridge & I suppose it's still better than frozen/canned/pre-made, but it's good to know, especially if buying $$$ Whole Foods in-store-juiced drinks. Why bother... juice it at home & drink it right away, then forgo the vitamin supplements. It's also more of a bother for some to juice multiple times/day, but I enjoy knowing I'm getting all my $'s worth out of my pricey produce. ***************************************************** Last notes... I would highly recommend this juicer & I really do think the Black & Decker brand is very good, as I've had good luck with small, inexpensive products of theirs in the past, like a $15 electric drill purchased at a discount store. Some may be disappointed if they've previously owned $300+ juicers. I'm sure they are lovely (like comparing a Jaguar to a Geo)... but, I'd rather spend around $50 & put the other $250 towards vegs to put in my stomach.
Awesome Juicer for the Price

I'm sure a lot of people realize the benefit of juicing but few rarely follow through with the program. My father has extremely high blood pressure but have been to stubborn to do anything about it. A near blackout one morning though changed all that. I've been looking for juicing recipes that help lower blood pressure and they were quite easy to find. Choosing a juicer though was much, much more tougher! I knew $50 was the absolute limit for me as we didn't need a 1000w machine that can extract juice from cement bricks. A decent juicer that allows us to extract juice from the usual fruits and vegetables would do the job. Finally, I settled with the Black & Decker JE2200B. It looked sturdy enough, has good reviews and doesn't break the bank. I'm sure any juicer out there that is anything but near the $400-$500 mark will be noisy. Surprisingly, this unit was semi-decent. It's still loud but it is definitely tolerable. Depending on your living quarters though, it's hard to tell whether they will hear it or not. For me, I'm sure they definitely will know when I'm juicing but again, it's not too bad. I expected worst. The machine has about 3 major assembly parts.Good news is that taking them apart as well as putting it back together is extremely simple. Two latches is all that secures the parts together. Once they are unhooked, the parts can be disassembled. For many, the ease of the cleanup process is very important and I agree as well. Luckily, the machine is fairly simple to clean. The hardest part to clean up is the steel cutter/strainer. The strainer will basically be covered in tiny pieces of pulp and so you'll have to either soak it for some time or use a toothbrush to clean it. The rest of the other parts can be cleaned with a simple rinse of the water after you discard the pulp first. As for juicing, I'm quite satisfied with it except for one thing. I notice that the pulp feels fairly wet after extraction, which leads me to believe that more could be squeezed out of it. But looking at the actual amount of juice I got out, I believe it was pretty decent. It's hard to tell because I'm no juicing expert. The one thing I do wish for is for a slightly bigger area for me to dump the fruits and vegetables in. It would have been awesome if the shape of where you threw in your food was circular rather in some odd looking shape.. Finally, the cup that came with this machine to hold your juice is fairly useless as its so tiny! After juicing a couple pieces of vegetables, the cup was already filled to the top due to the foam. As expected, you really shouldn't use this juicer for an extended amount of time. I definitely notice a slight burning smell probably due to the motor working overtime. All in all, I'm very happy with the purchase. For the price I paid, it felt like a steal. It's obviously not perfect but it gets the job done. Juicing is not cheap but if you stick with it, I'm sure you'll have a much stronger body!

I just got this and have now juiced twice, so this review may be updated in the future if things change. I bought this one after reading reviews and determining that it would be a good juicer to start with. I didn't want to spend $100, and I am also a single woman who is just going to juice for myself (so while maybe most days, not for a family of six). The juicer was easy to set up and operate. The opening is small, so I had to cut things into thinner slices, but there were no problems putting anything through so far (cucumber, blueberries, apple, pear, carrots, lemon, lime, bell pepper). When adding things while the juicer is going, some items DID bounce (blueberries, carrots), so be sure to get the pusher back on or cover with your hand if you don't want fruit escaping! UPDATE: I've decided that for berries, a blender is probably a better choice (along with banana and such that won't work in juicers). There just isn't enough bulk to the berries (blackberries, raspberries and blueberries, at least) to keep them down on the blades, so a lot of it get thrown in the pulp basket. Since I do like bananas, and I'm likely to pull out the blender for those, I'll just put my berries in with the banana and coconut water and get the benefit of the entire fruit that way. I've found it works fine to mix into my juice from the juicer. The pulp was a bit wet, but the amount of juice I got out of it when I put it back through wasn't worth the trouble--and with my second juice(of apple and carrots), the pulp was decently dry. You will want to clean this RIGHT after using it--especially the steel basket. I'm already planning on getting a toothbrush to help with cleaning the basket. Everything else rinsed easily. So, if you are an individual who wants to add some juice to your diet (and who isn't trying to live off juice alone), who is willing to prep your items being juiced a bit, and want something that doesn't cost an arm and leg, I recommend this one. If you do want to live off juice alone or want to juice for a crowd, I'd recommend a bigger one with more power and larger opening. Update--after just a few weeks of high usage, this juicer began to leak--maybe I was asking too much of it (as I was juicing a lot), but between the leaking and the prep time, I decided that I will save up for a bigger model. That said, it's great for low usage or a "juice for the weekend" sort of use. If you want to juice daily, get something a bit bigger and built better.
