Perfect for our needs-ordering more
By Brock H on Reviewed in the United States on September 23, 2011
We ordered two of these alarms to see if they were what we needed - we are ordering 4 more because they are exactly what we hoped they would be. We spend a lot of time at a cabin in a remote area where we can't expect neighbors or the sheriff to respond quickly nor will traditional monitored alarm systems work. There have been frequent burglaries in the area by both common criminals and by illegals traveling through. My wife is alone occasionally and needs a reliable alarm system to alert her if anyone tries to break in so she will have time to phone for help as well as prepare to defend herself if it doesn't frighten them off. The alarms will also be set when we aren't there and hopefully work as a deterrent. These alarms are sensitive and loud enough that you wouldn't want to be standing next to them for very long. With the hanging loop that can go over a door knob or be used to hang the alarm on a window latch there is enough flexibility to use them in various ways. The loop can be opened to go around something such as a closed handle or large door knob that the loop can't fit over. The alarm could even be used on items that someone might snatch and run with - although you couldn't have them 'armed' if you were going to move the item. Perhaps on a laptop in a library or coffee shop? A briefcase, suitcase or purse? A motel room door? They come with 3 AAA batteries. They have a chime setting as well as an alarm setting. Although we have the stick-on type of window alarms on some windows, we will use these on our other windows by hanging them on removable locks that can be screwed onto window frames. An excellent product for our needs.

Works, but is hyper sensitive--goes off all the time when my neighbor's cat meows!
By Book Lover on Reviewed in the United States on June 14, 2015
So, I have mixed feelings about this. The good thing is that it definitely works. And it's loud. But, it goes off if you sneeze hard. Here are the issues I have with this: 1. There is no way to turn it off without setting it off. It is ear splitting, but no matter how gently I try to hold it to turn it off so I can leave my house, it still goes off. 2. Just about everything sets it off. I've gotten some foam padding and stuck it onto the back of the devices (I have 5 of them) and that has helped absorb vibrations so it goes off less, but it still scares me half to death sometimes because the suck of the air when my AC goes on can set it off in the middle of the night. 3. If I can't find a way to further reduce it going off by accident, it's going to turn into the Alarm That Cried Wolf and will lose all effectiveness as an alert to me that something is amiss. If 999 times out of 1000 it goes off by accident, then why would I think that 1 time is actually someone up to no good? Overall, I wish there was either a sensitivity setting or that they made it less sensitive. Me, putting the toilet seat down 15 feet from the alarm, should not set it off.
