Perfect on top of the dryer . . . for lint!
By PelvicSurgeon on Reviewed in the United States on December 9, 2013
I recently replaced my washer and dryer and decided to add the storage drawers that elevate the appliances. While this is a great back-saver, the units now appear to take up so much more space, even though they are only about 18" higher. This left no room for a trash bin, despite this room having been billed by the Realtor as a , "butlers pantry." I guess whoever wrote the copy for the listing had a very tiny butler in mind!Anyway, suffice it to say that the room just doesn't have a logical place for a trash bin, and the cabinets are filled with cleaning supplies. While searching for a space saving trash bin, I realized that the only logical place for one was on top of the dryer. That sounds perfect, since its primary purpose is to provide a place to quickly dispose of lint when cleaning the trap after each load of laundry. Then I realized that I was going to need some tiny trash can (to go with my imaginary tiny butler) because, well . . . let's face it . . . I'm short, not petite or small statured, just plain short at 61" on a good hair day. It's genetic and it is what it is. But this means that if I were to place anything taller than about 8" on top of my 53" tall dryer, I'd be reaching to deposit my lint and I might even have difficulty seeing to aim.I looked at the few available small bins with rotating flap tops and such and found them to be comparably priced at just under $20. Then I came upon this baby. At the time it was a mere 2 bucks more than the 1.5 Liter swing top model, simplehuman Countertop Trash Can, White Steel, 1.5 Liters/ .4 Gallons, I'd almost resigned myself to purchase. Further, it was about $11 cheaper than my favorite pick, a snazzy 7 inch tall spring-loaded pushboy, Blomus Stainless-Steel Pushboy Wastebasket. At 3 1/16" high and 7" in diameter, this gem is just the right height and ample enough to accommodate at least a few weeks worth of lint. Measurements given here are those of the receptacle portion of the unit, exclusive of the lid with the sensor, which when attached for use brings the height up to 4 inches.I had absolutely no reservations about the automated opening mechanism, because I've had several larger (kitchen size) battery operated auto-open in the exam rooms in my office for about 6 years now. They've held up well, despite having lost parts to careless outside cleaning staff, frequent daily use, and three sets of professional movers (during relocation). The ones in my office have never failed me, except when in need of new batteries.I've had this unit for about 3 weeks now, and am as pleased with its form and function as I could be. I highly recommend this nifty and reasonably priced little unit for anyone who needs a small bin for a tight spot, or plans to have soiled hands when trying to quickly stash garbage (as happens in the kitchen). This would also be great for someone with limited mobility to keep near a favorite chair, couch, or bed. It might even work in a teen-aged girl's bathroom as a way to discretely dispose of feminine hygiene products that don't flush well. It's unobtrusive and quite handy. It uses 2 AA batteries, and does employ an energy savings mode when at rest. We do at least a few loads of laundry daily around here, and I haven't had to change the batteries yet. And, I'd be remiss if I failed to mention that we have two shed-monsters . . . er . . .feline family members, both white, one of whom has a long coat. We get plenty of waste in our dryer trap.I will update when (rather if) this ever fails, but I am expecting longevity as that has been my experience with similarly mechanized products in my office.

Nine Stars DZT 49-8 Infrared Touchless Stainless SteelmTrash Can
By JBash on Reviewed in the United States on September 21, 2013
I purchased this in April. It worked great for the first few months, then it stopped opening and closing automatically. Then it would work again for a 1/4 of the-day to two weeks then stop. Sometimes it would open, but not close. Makes it a pain to use when holding your grandson who was nine months old at that time. The batteries were replaced every two to three months while the touch control worked but not the automatic feature was in the "does not work mode". I emailed customer service and never received a reply. I did not mail the warranty card but that should not matter since I still have an Amazon receipt I can print out. I do not send in warranty cards since I do not like being thrown on email, mailing or phone list. Bad follow-up by customer service, Skip this item. Worked great at the start but now nothing. What good is it if your hands are full or if the open button does not work and it is necessary to find the lip of the cover to open it.
