UPDATE MAY 2019 - 5 STARS THIS TIME
By Linda Adsit on Reviewed in the United States on April 6, 2016
UPDATE MAY 2019: OK, the Eureka is history and I bought yet another Simpli Stik in May of 2016, which is still running. Three years. That could be a record. It’s had a rough life, but everything works, even though I neglected emptying it out after every use and it fell over hundreds of times. It still works just fine. So why buy a new one? Well, when I read the features of this new one, I was drawn. Let’s face it, I was sold. Why? Simply put (pardon the pun): 1 - It really stands up by itself. Really and truly. No overbalancing to make it fall over and trip up the user, as the old one does. 2 - Disconnecting the bottom dust cup for emptying is easier, as the button works well, and it is easy to click back on, unlike the old one, which tends to fight you. 3 - The power of this unit is shocking on the first use. It is indeed powerful. To me, it felt a bit like the kick of the first gun you ever fired. Hang onto it. My cat hates it, because it makes a lot more noise than the old one. I guess she’ll get used to it. 4 - The suction picks up nearly everything it gets near, so be warned. (Paper Towel: now you see it, now you don't.) There's no going over and over a spot, making the task take too long, as the old one does. 5 - Removing the rod, to use as a hand-held, is not a life and death battle. The snap button works like a dream, and you don’t lose all kinds of time fighting with it, as with the old one. 6 - It doesn't have a terrible odor wafting off during operation, only as you'd expect from an electric motor. Not overpowering. Those are good selling points for a reasonably priced, well designed cheap vacuum. Just a few sore spots: 1 - It does make lots of noise. You can’t use it while anyone is sleeping. Trust me. 2 - The motor gets sorta hot in continuous use. Short breaks help. The strength of the motor would seem to be the likely reason. No smoke noticed yet. 3 - As others have said, the crevice tool, although it works very well, just won’t stay where the manufacturer planned for it to be kept. It falls. And falls. If anyone has come up with a way to keep it snapped onto the rod, please - PLEASE let me know. If I should think of something, I will try to pass on the idea here. Hmmm, maybe heavy duty velcro? Worth a shot. Pending..... OK, that’s it. Good little appliance. I like it a lot. And it didn’t break the bank. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx have a Eureka that I bought in 2011 that is still kicking. That makes it almost 6 years old. The crevice tool; is cracked and patched with duck tape. The top and bottom sections are held together by duck tape because the little snap thing wore out. It's noisier than the Dirt Devil. It's also heavier. But it works. Say no more. UPDATE MAY 2019: OK, the Eureka is history and I bought yet another Simpli Stik in May of 2016, which is still running. Three years. The Dirt Devil is so light I have no problem using it. It does indeed have a chemical odor emitting during use, as other posters have mentioned. I will off-gas in time. Meanwhile, I use with ventilation.

5 stars customer for no hassle sending replacement
By Rugby in 2016! on Reviewed in the United States on June 9, 2019
I bought one for training mat & hardwood floors at martial arts, yoga studio & a second one for average to small rooms with carpet. Both vacuums work as needed. On the carpet which is slightly thick, vacuum slowly because width of area that picks up is small. But it picks up hair & small pieces on the surface just fine. Because vacuuming is done daily, items do not get buried, however for thicker carpets or deeper cleaning of not vacuuming daily, I suggest one with stronger suction or be patient staying a bit longer in those spots. Also the suction opening is in middle. Vacuuming edges along wall needs to be done straight at it not along side when on carpet. For hardwood floors or tile, the suction is enough to go parallel to wall edge for dust & hait, again go slowly. This vacuum is still working. The vacuum I purchased for training studio was perfect. The best part was its size for storage. We had one of those expensive lithium vacuums that needed to be hung on wall but now barely keeps a charge for 10 minutes. The Dirt Devil's cord is long enough we unplug only a few times up front & twice in back. The 3 in 1 feature of having option to use as hand vac with its attachment would make this vacuum a steal for the price. However, I can only give 3 star rating because of what I would consider a design flaw in the area where the filter section disconnects to the motor. The storage area where filter is small, which makes sense since vacuum has a sleek design. So that area needs to be removed often to clear its contents. That area is held connected by a small thin price of plastic which can & does break easily. Once that happens the whole vacuum becomes unusable. It can not even be used as a handheld because that tiny little piece is what holds the top motor weight to bottom lighter filter & catch bin. It's the same problem that other reviewers have also dinged product for in 1 & 2 star reviews. The vacuum was a gift for our training studio to replace the sputtering out lithium battery one. I like giving gifts that last. So that there knocks off 4 stars. But the one for single user, carpet rooms is still working as described. Add 5 stars. & 5 stars to customer service for their immediate reply & sending me return label to send damaged one back & then a working replacement. So averaging it out based on my experience with 2 vacuums purchased in March & one breaking at end of May with replacement sent in early June, is how I averaged my review. (I'm not a mathematician, lol, so please don't comment the numbers don't add up. Maybe they do?) Here are some suggestions if you are purchasing this inexpensive, effective vacuum. When cleaning out filter catch area, do it as if you were handling explosives, .... Calmly, unhurried & gently. That little plastic piece literally makes or breaks the product. If it wasn't for customer service my rating would be 1 star. For $20 bucks, it should at least last a year with average use. Overall, with these considerations & because of fast resolution from customer service I still recommend this product. This is a "convenience" type vacuum, not a heavy duty. But it's also a lot lighter than the bigger ones where lugging a heavier one for smaller jobs gets old real fast. With Gratitude
