A Must-Have Cleanser for Oily and Combination Skin – Love It!
By Joy on Reviewed in the United States on January 5, 2025
My husband and I have been using the La Roche-Posay Effaclar Deep Cleansing Foaming Facial Cleanser for a while now, and it has become a must-have in our skincare routine. We’ve repurchased it multiple times because it works so well for both of us, despite our different skin types. My husband has oily and acne-prone skin, while I have combination skin, and this cleanser works beautifully for both. It effectively removes excess oil and leaves our skin feeling fresh, clean, and balanced without any dryness or irritation. The creamy texture creates a soft, rich foam that rinses off easily, and the pleasant scent enhances the experience without being overpowering. We also love that it’s paraben-free and allergy-tested, making it gentle yet effective for daily use. It visibly minimizes pores and keeps our skin looking and feeling its best. If you’re looking for a versatile, high-quality cleanser that works across different skin types, this one is absolutely worth trying. Highly recommend!

La Roche-Posay Effaclar Deep Cleansing Foaming Facial Cleanser - A Game Changer! I recently tried the La Roche-Posay Effaclar Deep Cleansing Foaming Facial Cleanser, and I’m so glad I did. Here’s why this cleanser gets a full 5 stars from me: How It Feels First off, this cleanser feels amazing on the skin. It has a creamy, foamy texture that feels super luxurious. It lathers up nicely and spreads easily, so you don’t need to use a lot – a little goes a long way! Effectiveness This stuff really works. I’ve been using it for a couple of weeks now, and my skin has never looked better. It’s great at removing dirt, oil, and makeup without leaving my skin feeling stripped or dry. My face feels fresh and clean after every wash. For All Skin Types I have combination skin, and this cleanser works perfectly for me. It’s gentle enough not to irritate my sensitive areas but effective enough to control the oil on my T-zone. I think it would work well for all skin types. No Breakouts One of the best things about this cleanser is that it hasn’t caused any breakouts. In fact, I’ve noticed fewer blemishes since I started using it. It’s definitely helped keep my skin clear and smooth. Nice, Mild Scent It has a mild, pleasant scent that’s not overpowering at all. Just a fresh, clean smell that makes using it even more enjoyable. Overall Thoughts La Roche-Posay Effaclar Deep Cleansing Foaming Facial Cleanser is a fantastic product that I highly recommend. It feels great, works wonders for my skin, and hasn’t caused any breakouts. Plus, a little goes a long way, so the bottle lasts a while. 5 stars all the way – give it a try, you won’t be disappointed!

Deep Cleansing Power: This cleanser does an amazing job at thoroughly cleansing my skin. It effectively removes excess oil, dirt, and impurities without over-drying, leaving my face feeling refreshed and deeply cleansed after every use. Handles Acne and Rosacea challenges

Updated again April 10, 2017--Still 5 stars. The cleaner is gentle but effective and I don't have acne nor does my skin feel dry and tight when I wash. I have been able to go out without makeup feeling confident again. Still recommended! Updated July 11, 2015--it's officially five stars for me. Skin is clear and in good shape, and I am on only my second tube after 13 months of use. Great cleaner, great value. Original review: I am a person who never had much acne as a teen, but who has been plagued with adult acne. I also have rosacea, which complicates treating acne. Soap and most treatments irritate my skin. Rosacea cleansers and treatments make me break out. On the basis of the reviews I tried this cream cleanser, and I have to say it is working. So far it is fighting the heavy oil on my skin while not drying it out so much it looks dry and flaky on the surface. I have such heavy oil, I find myself washing twice at the end of a long, hot day and I still don't feel dry and tight even though it is squeaky clean. While this is not a red-reducing cleanser, it does not irritate and make my skin redder and seems to be a bit calming--once it calms down after washing, I am not red, only a little pink. Why not 5 stars? Because I don't think I am through with the beginning stages of adjusting to this cleaner, and I will re-review later. In these first 2 1/2 weeks I am finding my acne is getting better, especially those places that have been breaking out over and over again. However, I am getting some new, minor breakouts in different areas. I suspect that some deep problems are being cleared out and finally healed. Overall, my skin is looking much clearer and I suspect that will continue. The flier I got with the product says this is not an acne treatment, but a cleanser to prepare your skin for treatment. I find that is true. I use a little 2.5% benzoyl peroxide on a bad breakout occasionally, and Supershot serum on my face the other days. They seem to be working much better because my skin is well prepared. I like its cleansing abilities. The fragrance is light and refreshing, it lathers nicely, and you use a droplet--excellent value. I like it so far. I'll check in next month and report on the acne progress.
Great face wash!

I love these type of face washes to get makeup off & really get your face & pores clean. I usually lather this on my face for at least 1-2 mins to really get the full use of it & that is a game changer for my skin. My only complaint is that it has a subtle “soap like” smell to it or baby powder like smell. The smell doesn’t linger after washing but I can smell it while I wash my face. Nothing crazy just something I don’t prefer but overlook because of the quality and results of this product.
Clean Face for a Good Price!

After seeing many good reviews on this product, I gave into trying it out and it's such a huge difference on my skin! I used to wash my face with St. Ives scrub (I know now that you shouldn't scrub EVERYDAY.), and yes my face felt clean BUT my pores just became larger. I have been using this for about three weeks now and my face feels clean AND my pores aren't as prominent throughout the day. I have oily skin and NTS: *A little goes a VERY long way*. I barely use a nickle-sized portion and it already foams well all over my face. You may feel dry/tight skin but that's why you should have a good skin care regimen to go with this.

I love everything I've used from LaRoche-Posay. This is my first time purchasing this cleanser. When I bought it, I thought the tube was pretty small and probably wouldn't last long. If you've read other reviews that say "a little goes a long way," that is the TRUTH! You can get by with using about a pea-sized amount for night cleansing (to remove any make-up or sunscreen), and even less for morning cleansing. I am amazed by that. The cleanser also feels very silky when applied to your skin, and doesn't leave you feeling dry or tight like a lot of cleansers do. I've been using the cleanser for nearly a week now. I have combination skin, by the way. I have noticed my usual oily spots have calmed down somewhat, although I feel a bit oilier when I wake up. Not sure why that could be. Overall, I'm a pretty happy camper :)

Long-Lasting, Gentle, and Perfect for Oily Skin

This has been an amazing find for me. It’s super foamy — a little bit really goes a long way. I use about half the size of a dime to wash my entire face and neck, and with my beard, it lathers up incredibly fast. If you don’t have facial hair, just working it into your eyebrows creates a ton of foam. It’s very gentle, making it perfect to use alongside other actives like tretinoin. I usually reach for it in the morning or on nights when I’m skipping tret. It took me almost a year to finish a single bottle using it about 3-4 days a week, which makes the slightly higher price totally worth it. Plus, it’s FSA eligible thanks to the salicylic acid content — even though it doesn’t specify the exact percentage, it definitely helps minimize pores and keeps blackheads under control. It does a great job removing oil without stripping or drying out my skin. I’ve repurchased because it’s just that good!
