A very useful, solid choice for extra counter space
By Harold K. on Reviewed in the United States on December 31, 2015
I've been in the market for something like this for awhile, but always deterred by the high prices they typically go for at some of the high end chain stores -- $300-$500 range. Having just moved into a 750 sq ft apartment, I was desperate for counter space and decided to buy this on the cheap as a temporary solution to my problem. Once I put it together and started loading it up with my appliances and pots/pans, I was immediately impressed by the sturdiness and aesthetics. Pros: - Sturdy materials. Metal and wood parts are actually metal and wood. E.g. Not chromed plastic or particle board. - Truly 'tool-less' build. It took me about 15-20 mins to assemble once I unpacked and laid all the parts out. Admittedly I did have to use a pipe wrench to separate 2 parts that I accidentally mis-threaded (my fault), but otherwise, no tools needed. - Minimalist aesthetic. It's not bulky or overly decorative. You can load it up with stuff and it just kind of disappears. - Can be easily disassembled and/or moved around. When I inevitably move again, I will not be dreading taking this with me. - Quite a lot of storage space, with adjustable shelves. My Kitchenaid Pro6 mixer, crock pot, and Lodge enameled cast iron dutch oven sits comfortably on the bottom, with other baking wear. in the middle. The top being utilized as a wet bar and snack area. I hung a set of heavy stainless steel pots from the hooks up top without issue. Cons: - Being in California, there is always concern of tall things falling over. If you want to anchor it to your wall, then you need to acquire a strap...it doesn't come with one. - For the height and potential load-bearing nature of this thing, the supplied plastic feet are very small. In my opinion, they're by far the flimsiest and cheapest-looking part. I will be watching them closely during the next earthquake. They're perfectly functional for leveling, though. - I wish the shelves were a little deeper. As I said, it's more than adequate to store my huge kitchenaid mixer down below, but I would not feel comfortable actually using the mixer on the top shelf. In summary, I'm very very pleased with it and have since purchased two other pieces of Whitmor-branded 'furniture.' I think for anyone desperate for extra kitchen storage like I was, it is a good, solid solution. Just be realistic about what you're getting. It's not a butcher block. It's not a fancy, heavy duty permanent piece of furniture, but it also doesn't cost $500!

Okay ( Not Great)
By Jessica (Mab) on Reviewed in the United States on March 13, 2018
Living in a small duplex, I bought this in the hopes of having more storage space for my kitchenware. From the reviews and pictures, it looked like a fair bet this would be what I was looking for. Can this Baker's Rack hold things? Sure. The description says "no tool assembly" but being a bit naïve, I had no idea that meant no screws or anything at all. It's just these strange....plastic clips...that hold the shelves. Needless to say, it took a lot of rotation of these "clips" to find the ones that could even hold the weight of the shelf itself without slipping down to the next pole grooves. Even with my husbands help, we were baffled by the counter rack (regardless of what we did) being uneven. It took about 30 minutes of shuffling things back and forth for it to finally sit properly. The top shelf we didn't even attempt to put on because it honestly didn't feel sturdy enough. We used all the clips we could fit just to try to hold the counter shelf up ( as you can see in the picture, lol) What I will say is that the metal does feel somewhat durable and the wooden cutting board looks nice. I would have given this a 5 if it even had the most basic of screws to keep it in place instead of these plastic clips. (but that's my fault for not understanding what "tool free assembly" means). It does look nice put together, but I am careful when removing and placing things on it…just in case.

This shelving unit is quite pretty when you get it set up! I was impressed with the sturdy cutting board and all the weight that these shelves can hold! When they say strong, they weren’t kidding! It fits flush against any wall, and really frees up my counter space, and I love that all the shelves are adjustable for whatever my needs are at the time! Easy to change the height of shelving and easy to slide on the floor, but once moved into place doesn’t slip all over like some I have tried! You may want to order more hooks to hang utensils or pans , than what it comes with. No complaints and will def order again! UPDATE! Almost two years later, still sturdy and beautiful as ever! I’ve used this shelf for pasta and bread making mainly and of course to store my machines and platters. And even with the board being wet or damp almost every day for a few hours, no warping, no chipping, no problems. I have scrubbed the board in between product very well each time, and it holds up marvelously! I have purchased extra hooks for it, and have hung my mugs all along under the very top shelf and this can take quite a bit of weight. Well worth the price and am purchasing again because my son and daughter in law fell in love with it as well! The picture doesn’t do justice. It is truly a solid lovely piece!

I was initially shopping for a kitchen cart. I wanted to replace an old, rickety bar cart that had been in the family for 50 years. It had broken wheels & a cracked top shelf. Since I'm not much of a "fashion" or furniture person, I had never heard of a "Kitchen Bakers Rack." When I saw photos of them, I thought, "Perfect....a kitchen cart with two extra shelves and a place to hang my new Stainless Steel skillets. And, I won't need to move the unit around, so wheels would not be needed. I was pleasantly surprised when the unit arrived in two days, even though I didn't request two-day shipping! Everything was well packaged & well protected. I was able to assemble it alone (without any tools) in about an hour - and I am terrible at assembling anything. The unit looks very nice in my den, which is next to my kitchen. The size is perfect, in fact I'm planning to put another one in the kitchen. Since I already have a cutting board, I won't use the wood on the top shelf for preparing food. It looks nice & breaks up the shiny chrome appearance of the rest of the unit. Another nice feature is the leveling adjustment. It was really needed. After assembly, the unit wobbled front to back. It was very easy & fast to adjust it so it was solid. I adjusted it so the unit leaned back slightly. A kit to secure the unit to the wall was included if desired. Extra plastic clips that keep the shelves in place were also included. One issue to be aware of: When installing the top shelf (the 3rd from the bottom), you have to decide what you want to hang from the four hooks provided. Larger pots & pans will need clearance, so the shelf will have to be lower than it appears in the photos. If I had to use only three words to review this product, I'd have to say, "Money Well Spent."
Convenient Extra Storage

My baker's rack just turned 2 years old recently, thought it was time to weigh in on the product. I bought this to add storage to a kitchen that really didn't have any, and because it fit the awkward blank space, where I'm pretty sure there should have been actual storage (sidenote: I live in NYC, so I have no expectations to get decent rent AND storage). So it's small enough, in my opinion, to be unobtrusive to my kitchen, and it's held up very, very well over the last couple of years, including surviving a move. It only comes with 4 hooks to hang whatever you feel like hanging. I have since found the need to buy more hooks, and it has made it even better storage for me to hang pots and pans. A note on the height between where the hooks go and where the countertop is: it's 19.5" high. This means that if you have a large skillet you're trying to hang, it probably won't do any hanging, but more "resting" on the counter with the hook keeping it from falling over. I have one pan that is just too big for the hanging method, but fits oh-so-nicely on the shelf below. I made the middle shelf higher so that I could fit a Kitchenaid mixer (in its original box) on the bottom shelf. Middle shelf is still enough to fit my excessive baking tools. I do not, however, use this rack for any actual baking activities... It's much too small to roll any dough out or work with anything on the counter of it. It holds my coffee maker and tea kettle (among other things). I also think if I attempted to use this rack for baking, the top shelf would really bother me - I'm pretty sure I'd bump my head against it as this rack isn't that tall. If you're looking for storage and the dimensions work for you, I recommend this.
Attractive and sturdy Baker's Rack

I really like this Baker's Rack. It arrived very well packaged, without any damage. Nothing was warped and the wood cutting board, which fits its shelf well, is completely flat and very nice looking. In fact, I would rate the whole unit as very nice looking, with an Industrial Chic appearance. As another review mentioned, the hardest part of putting it together was opening the box. Unfortunately, I also made the mistake of thinking the raised edge around the shelves is supposed to go up, to keep things from falling off. When assembled that way, the unit is very unstable, which may be why some reviews mention this problem. I took it apart and re-assembled it, with the edges pointing down and now the rack is very stable. They should probably include this information in the directions; they do not and you cannot really tell from the pictures which way the bottom 3 shelves go. Further confusing the issue is that the top shelf DOES go on with the raised edge pointing up, to keep things from falling off. I live in an older building and the floors sag badly, so being able to adjust the feet was another big bonus. I have a tiny kitchen and the counters were completely filled by a microwave, toaster, dish drainer and coffee maker. With this rack, all the appliances could be moved,to free up the counter for work space. And there was still plenty of space on the Baker's Rack for a collection of small objects, from measuring cups to a Ninja processor to a Cuisinart Ice Cream Maker. The over-all size is perfect for my small space and the price was perfect too. I am very happy with this purchase and highly recommend it. UPDATED May 25, 2013: I have had this Bakers' Rack for one year,4 months and still love it. It still looks like new. As with most things my " stuff" has expanded to fit the available space and the rack is now loaded with as much stuff as it can hold. I am looking on amazon today to find more hanging hooks, since I am now haning all my pots with handles and all my cooking utensils, like ladles, from the shelves. I was concerned about overloading it but there has not been any problems and the unit remains very stable.
Quick Kitchen Fix for Space and Storage

Currently, I live in an average-sized family home in the Midwestern US with a small to mid-sized kitchen - think better than NYC kitchens but still so much left to be desired. My fiance and I are both self-proclaimed foodies that love to cook and bake so our kitchen should be our haven, our santucary if you will..but we were so dissapointed in it! In terms of space, there was hardly a square foot left over after I had the necessary counter essentials so not only was it frustrating to navigate or do anything in but it also looked cluttered. Purchasing this cart was a quick fix for both things! When I recieved it, I had it assembled within 15 minutes because the directions are easy-to-follow and truly requires no tools: this was my fiance's favorite thing about this, he was able to stay in bed as I put it together. It's easy to tote around when fully assembled yet when it's placed, it stands super sturdy. Our home is an older rental with little to no usable studs in the wall so we weren't able to use the provided brace strap to stabilize it. We have two doggos, one large breed, that are constantly bounding and jumping around it and it still hasn't toppled over. Also wanted to add that we tested disassembly after it had weight on it for a couple days and it was still just as easy! It provides a generous amount of shelf space between the 2 large bottom shelves, the cutting board station, and the top spice-shelf. The adjustable sleeves allow you to place the shelves wherever you need them and change as you go. Apart from the storage capacity, the cutting board provides an extra kitchen station whenever it's needed and is the perfect size for prep work, a mixing station or barista bar, etc. Overall very satisified and can't find a fault despite looking for one. It fits its purpose and is exactly as advertised!

This unit has served its purpose well, which is to maximize space in a small kitchen. Pretty sturdy for what it is, though definitely not commercial grade. I use the top shelf, but found that if I put things like sauce bottles up there, they do sometimes fall when I open and close the microwave door (which sits of the wood shelf). To alleviate this issue, I just put different things up there that are not cylindrical and/or things which have a wider base or lower center of gravity, and it's fine. Easy to assemble. The hooks come in handy. I imagine that the wood shelf could be used as a cutting board, but I don't use it for that, so I don't know how the finish would hold up - still, a nice thick piece of wood. I probably have 40-50 lbs. of stuff on the rack in total, and it seems to support that easily, but I would not feel comfortable about trying to stand on it or use it as a stepping stool, to give an idea of about how sturdy it seems, which is 'medium sturdy' in my opinion. If I had any complaints, they would be: A typical counter top is about 36" high, and I wish the top shelf were the same height, but it's only 32" high. I wish the top shelf had more of a 'fence' (I don't know what you'd call it) around it - it has about a 0.5" high fence, but it this were 2-3" instead, it would be a more useful shelf for me. ...and the chrome finish makes it look a little 'cheap', but you can't have everything. Once again, I would not recommend this product for commercial use, but for home use it does the job very nicely.

I am absolutely in love with this rack! I recently bought a bread machine and I started realizing that my small apartment kitchen could no longer hold anymore large appliances. What's a girl to do? I started thinking that a pantry shelf in my kitchen would be really nice to hold everything. I hopped on amazon and found this. It's a little bit more expensive than "just-a-rack" shelves, but I find that it compliments the kitchen so much more. The cutting board is nice quality even though I do not use it for cutting as I really do not want to have gouge marks in it. Beware that the cutting board just lays on a shelf. It does move a little. The shelf comes with hooks to hang whatever you like from it. I have a small skillet, some measuring spoons, and a rolling pin. It saves a bit of drawer space so you don't have to go searching through the dreaded "small appliance drawer". The top shelf above the cutting board is a little small. About 6-8 inches wide but holds a nice amount of things. I would be a little weary of putting something extremely heavy on top however I do have a good amount of weight on it with my dry good canisters and other items. The bottom racks are adjustable which is really nice. I have my bread machine, rice maker, waffle maker, griddle, crock pot and other various items on it. On the top cutting board sits my kitchen aid mixer. So as you can see it really provides a good amount of space for heavier appliances. I think it really adds to the room too. The top rack would be a great spot for a couple bottles of wine as well. I would add that it sits lower than the counter. I'm 5'4" and it comes about the top of my hips. Would I say that it's as nice as a more expensive true baking rack? No. However, I do believe it will last a good while if taken care of and it works really well in a small apartment situation.

I bought this to match a metal shelving unit we bought last week to use for food storage. We have a very small kitchen with not much cabinet space. I couldn't be more pleased. This butcher's rack is beautiful, sturdy, and seems to have updated our kitchen. One of the corner support holes was bent, but my husband was able to work with it. It took him about 20 minutes to put it together. He used a rubber mallet and level to make sure it was put together correctly. I absolutely love it! Also, it dawned on me yesterday morning that I had two boxes of plastic turkey roasting bags. I used them to cover my food processor and meat grinder until I can find prettier appliance covers to fit my kitchen appliances. In any event, this rack is absolutely beautiful.

Pretty easy to put together without any tools. Get the bottom shelf in place and then put it where you want it in the room and then start building it up. The cutting board is very heavy so be careful. One note, it can be a bit rickety. The big issue is the brown plastic brackets-check to see the brackets say Top at the top and note that there are grooves inside that match the grooves carved into the poles. They click in when they are just wright. Click one side into the right groove, then add the second side. I think the rounded corners are supposed to fit OVER the brown clips, but only 2 of them did, and one actually started to slip over it instead of resting above or on it. So all our brown brackets are showing and one is quite wobbly, but jamming something into the gap between the hole edges and the pole edges can help. Check the feet too, ours was toppling forward until we adjusted the leg. Any kids or pets in the house, definitely use the wall bracket to anchor it to the wall. Quite good quality for the price and the size is just about perfect for our needs. I thought it would be a bit taller. The top shelf is eye level and I am 5 feet 7. Very happy to get something so clean and neat looking for the price. The cutting board top is awesome. I will be protecting it with a glass one to keep it so nice-looking. It comes with 4 hooks. I bought an extra pack to hang all my utensils and am in general 95% happy with how things turned out.
