Excellent OWB holster, not very concealable
By Stewbacca on Reviewed in the United States on December 27, 2015
UPDATE: I found that this holster also fits the FNX-9 pistol, but not perfectly. In order to make it fit, remove the single passive retention screw below the active retention button. Reach inside the holster and remove the rounded flexible plastic insert that provides tension inside the holster, down by where the barrel goes. Then replace the passive retention screw, you may have to tighten it a little more than before in order to get it to work. Your holster will still work with the Springfield XD service and subcompact, but you may have a little "wiggle." This does not affect retention, the pistol will not come out unexpectedly, just doesn't feel as tight when holstered. Removing this tab allows you to insert the FNX-9 pistol. If you don't remove the tab, you will have great difficulty removing the FNX from the holster, as the tab will get caught in the groove that runs down the front of the frame through the Picatinny rail, where the serial number is etched. This would probably work for the FNX-40 as well, as I understand the frame is the same size, although I don't own one and couldn't test it. ORIGINAL POST: I own both the Service model (4" barrel) and subcompact (3" barrel) and this holster works for both. The area of each pistol that comes into contact with the retention points of the holster (trigger guard, upper part of grip, slide width) is the same, the only noticeable thing is the extra inch of holster beyond the end of the barrel when you pair it with the subcompact pistol. Retention is excellent and adjustable with a single phillips screw. If you're not familiar with the Serpa holsters, there's a tab you press on the side to release the lock so you can unholster. The tab is easy to press, but if it's not pressed that weapon WILL NOT come out of the holster no matter how hard you pull. A half dozen practice draws are all you'll really need to get the hang of it. As far as fit and comfort goes, it doesn't hang so far out as to bump doorways and such, but if your chair has armrests you may find yourself in a tight spot, or you might hit the bottom of the holster on an armrest as you're sitting down. I would hesitate to call this a concealment holster. Unless you're wearing a sport coat or jacket, this holster does protrude far enough to cause your weapon to print through most shirts. You can choose from three mounting angles, from about 15 degrees forward or back, or straight up.

Not a great lock/release system...
By Dan H. on Reviewed in the United States on February 29, 2024
This holster is well made and of comparable material as other holsters here on Amazon. I wanted to like this holster but I'm not a fan of the lock/release. As my kids have told me "you have short stubby fingers" and that makes this type of lock/release a deal breaker for me. Not only is the reach a bit too much and I have to cock my hand a slightly but I also have to hold the release in as I withdraw my sidearm. It doesn't feel very natural to me and is slower than the next holster that I bought from another manufacturer. That pistol has a thumb release and there is no thought about what to do (like extending my finger further than I normally would) or slowness in withdrawing the sidearm ( having to hold down the release while withdrawing). My hand is exactly where it should be and in a natural position.
