Good quality, easy replacement
By Jurgen G. on Reviewed in the United States on February 25, 2016
Both the case and the mechanism of this socket are high quality, much more solid than the stamped brass version. The dimmer is smooth and works well with Phillips LED bulbs. The unit is a direct replacement for some Restoration Hardware table lamps bought about ten years ago, all of which had the dimmers die over time. (I initially used 150W incandescent bulbs, and my guess is the dimmers fail pretty quickly at that power; it gets mighty hot inside the socket.) These are probably the OEM units, because the thread on the knurled retaining ring matched the old ones. This made them a snap to replace; didn't have to remove the harp or wrestle the old ones off their bushing, just replaced the socket above the retaining ring. Incidentally, the knob supplied with the unit (which is removable to clear the harp) fits the new shaft perfectly. It does not fit the shaft of the old sockets because the shaft design has changed.

Attractive but Barely Functional!!!
By Michael on Reviewed in the United States on April 19, 2018
Out of the box, this device seems of high quality and solidly built. Here are a few things to note: 1. The dimmer switch or nob isn't made of the same material as the base. It is plastic with a silver coating. Not that this is a major issue but it is worth noting 2. The nob is notched and slipped over a smaller black nob and easily comes off. This can be resolved with glue but this is something that should be resolved with manufacturing. 3. When dimming, at least with a 60 watt LED bulb, it will only lower the light to a certain percentage (guessing around 40% dimness) before cutting off completely. 4. If you dim the bulb to the 40%, it will stay on for about 10 minutes before shutting itself off. I've bought two of these and this seems to be consistent for both. However, I must admit that I do not know if this would still occur for a 150w (its max wattage) or incandescent bulb. Other than the four issues I've noted, this seems to be a good product.
