great product! Is perfect for compact SUV's.

I was originally going to get the ascent 1500 for my Ford Escape, but it went up in price, and actually made the Ascent 1600 more affordable. I was worried about the 1600 being too large, as another reviewer had said that you couldn't open the back of a tribute with the cargo box on top. Also when you use a tape measure and put it on top of the car to see how much room it takes up, it seems like it is the same length as the entire top of the car. When the freight truck pulled up and I saw the size of the box, I was like, this is gonna look ridiculous on my car!- But, I was able to pretty easily, by myself, get the thing on the car, locked and mounted, and it was perfect! And I still could adjust it forwards or backwards, if I wanted, and I was able to open the trunk without it touching the box, no problem. The mounting clasps can be moved, and my crossbars are adjustable-if your crossbars are not adjustable, you may have problems. Anyway, the box is great, as it was an upgrade from a cargo bag that I have been using for several long trips. The only downside to the box is storage when you are not using it-at least with a bag, you can fold it up-but the box doesn't make noise, it stays dry inside (I drove to Florida and back, through several flash flood rainstorms) and it is fairly easy to take on and off. Also, with Amazon, I got free shipping (normally $150), and it showed up in just a couple of days. Also, the locks are key-I used to have a padlock on my bag-and it opens from either side. This box also has plenty of room, and looks way more stylish and aerodynamic than the clunker boxes that are out there, and since its space is more lateral than vertical, you don't have to stack a bunch of stuff on top of each other, which makes accessing stuff throughout the trip much easier. If you are thinking about saving money and getting one of the flip top clunker boxes, remember, you will have this for a long time, and those boxes will cost you more in gas, as this one doesn't seem to have any impact on fuel economy. I highly recommend it.

Thule Ascent 1600

The guides for the internal luggage straps are made of plastic and are weak. A guide broke upon my first use. Otherwise, the product is good and worked well during my first trip.
