Best coffee you'll ever brew
By Viva Velo on Reviewed in the United States on May 30, 2025
Love these for good coffee. I admit, I broke the glass carafe after about 2 years, but it was my own fault, so I bought another one. The only issue is basically *having* to buy #6 filters online, because no one sells them any more. But, when you buy by the 100, the filter cost is fair, esp. if you get the off-brand (and then you can get recycled, as well).

Updated: Frequent spontaneous cracking....(was Sometimes Simple is Best!)
By GothCrone on Reviewed in the United States on July 17, 2013
Update: 07JUN2021 --- Removing two stars because although I love the design and we've used Melitta pour-over coffee carafes/method since I was a child, the last THREE of these have just spontaneously (so it seems) cracked ....I hand wash them, they don't get put over a heat source, --at first I thought it was just "us" perhaps bumping the carafe against the sink when washing (admittedly I did break one that way but it sure didn't take much impact) -- but the other 2 I've ordered in the past 2 years have just "cracked" without an event that we noticed that caused it. I am guessing these are no longer made with borosilicate glass. Nowhere on the description page does it say they're made with borosilicate glass...so presuming they're probably not anymore. I'm not buying a 4th one (would be the 4th in 5 years - this last one lasted 9 months and then after making coffee in it this morning, we drank the majority of the coffee and when we went to pour the last cup, there was a big crack across the side). Researching other pour over options with borosilicate glass. After moving to a smaller home/kitchen and realizing that the large automatic coffee makers didn't make such great coffee (and took up valuable counter space) I thought back to the days when my parents (probably in the late 70s) came home with this simple Melitta glass coffee maker . . it seemed to make the most delicious coffee . . so I found this again on Amazon, pitched my automatic coffee maker that was starting to "stew" the coffee and, despite careful cleaning with vinegar and water, was putting out a coffee result that was a bit "metallic"s tasting -- and went back to boiling water in a kettle and using this Melitta coffee maker. We did a bit of research and found that, unlike tea, you don't want to use boiling water over the grounds ... it should be about 190 degrees F (I just guestimate and take the kettle off the boil, let it sit for a minute and then pour the water over the grounds...) - great coffee every time and you can't beat the price!
