Reliable and Easy to Install – A Winter Essential
By Darshil on Reviewed in the United States on April 16, 2025
The SCC SZ435 Super Z6 Cable Tire Chains are an absolute must-have for winter driving. I recently took a trip through snow-covered mountain roads and these chains made all the difference in terms of safety and control. One of the standout features is how easy they are to install, even for someone like me who isn’t particularly experienced with tire chains. The instructions were clear, and I was able to get them on in less than 15 minutes without needing to move the vehicle. The low-clearance design was perfect for my SUV, and they fit snugly without any slipping. On the road, the chains performed beautifully. I felt a noticeable increase in traction and stability, especially on icy inclines and slushy turns. They also handled surprisingly well at low speeds on packed snow, giving me more confidence than I’ve ever had in similar conditions. I also appreciate the durable build quality—they feel solid and well-constructed, and after multiple uses, they show minimal wear. If you drive in snowy or icy conditions, these are a smart, dependable investment. Five stars!

Super? Not so Super!
By NEIL LE ROY BAILEY on Reviewed in the United States on December 31, 2016
Super is not a description of how good it is but of how difficult to install and how badly it performs! First of all, the whole swishing/swinging the cable under the car is not really effective at all (we tied a line to the clip, tied a stick to the other end of the line and tossed it under the car, grabbing hold on the opposite side of the tire and then pulling the cable to get it into position at the tire). Very difficult to install on cars with low clearance from fender to tire (ours was a new 2016 Lexus IS200T 4DR).....took almost 1 hour due to having to have a woman with tiny hands trying to fasten the rivet clip on the inside. On 18" wheels, fits but so tight a lot of pulling is required along with inching forward or back to get enough slack to clip the outside clip. Really needed a good set of pliers at least to snap fully closed.....had to start off with rivet in linking hole but not totally pulled into the slot where it locks in. OK, so this is annoying and not the main problem......the biggest problem is that the 'new super design' is a spiral of metal wire that wraps around a plastic coated metal cable (plenty strong). However, the spirals of the metal wire run in the same direction as the rotation of the tire, so gripping is not great (or not at all in our case). We tried to use the 'chains' up a icy/snowy driveway (hard paved blacktop) that had an angle of maybe 20 degrees or so. Car trunk was full of stuff and 2 adults in the back/1 driver in front so plenty of weight for traction. The tires spun in one place, digging through the 1 inch or so of snow, the 1 inch or so of ice and onto the pavement and proceeded to continue to spin with lots of sparks flying out, but no forward movement. The car started from a flat cleared road onto the driveway and was moving at about 5-8 miles an hour when it started onto the weather surface. It just stopped moving and could not get traction. Tried 'snow' setting, tried 'sport' setting, tried normal 'drive' setting; all had the same result! Did not dare to try backing in as the driveway was only 1 car + 2-3' on each side with slope on one side and stone wall on other side! So the car sat at the bottom of the driveway from 3pm to next morning. Looked outside and saw that the cleared roads had iced up with dew/slight rain, so too icy to go out. Next morning, was able to get out of the driveway by using reverse and about 10+mph in reverse to get onto the level road. Next came the removal of the 'chains'......drove at 10-15 mph (too much noise/vibration any faster) to a parking lot area and then tried to unclip! WOW, a tool would again be handy to have; had to wiggle the two cable halves back and forth the work the now-seated rivet out of the slot and back to the round entry hole of the clip. Then, the cabling (not a chain) hung up on the modern exposed disk brake pad inside behind the back tire! Again, had to use a woman's tiny hands to finally wriggle it free! Other side, unclipped only the inside clip and then held onto the cabling, pulling away from the tire, as the car inched slowly forward, to keep the cabling from hanging up.....came right off this time. Does fit back into the bag OK but in our case, will never come out again! Look, my feeling is, the old method (this company does have the 'old link chains') of laying down the link chains (which are in a ladder shape of linked squares), driving slowly forward, and then linking up, is dead easy and works every time! Unlinking is also dead easy! Suggest you stay with the old, not the new 'Super' method if at all possible! Sorry to be a downer-reviewer, but I was the one with frozen hands, scraped knuckles and a sore ear from being yelled at by the woman with the tiny hands who also had the above results (except for the sore ear as I am at least smart enough not to talk back to the 'little woman')!
