The best location for the Xmas Tree is NEVER right beside and outlet. It's usually right in-front of an outlet, or nowhere near an outlet. Either way, you typically have to climb behind something to unplug the lights. That's where this cord is best suited. Step, it switches on, Step again, it switches off. Just goes to show that a simple device can fix a problem you didn't even realize you had. Welcome to living in the first world, where one of our many difficulties in life is not having the easiest of time plugging all of our stuff in. This fixes plugging in one of those things, during one of the most ridiculous of seasons too. Don't get me wrong, the Christmas time is great, but I'm pretty sure the whole twinkle-light part of it was started by the electric companies... I guess i should talk about this cord though... 2 prong only, will not work with grounded (3-prong) plugs. However, both the plug and the outlets on this are polarized (one prong/hole bigger than the other) A must-have for Xmas trees, works good for basic lamps as well. Don't use this for anything other than low-power items (like lights) unless you like watching cords melt. Don't use this outside, unless you are taking it outside because of the fumes created by not listening to the sentence above...
