Pleasantly Surprised!
By chi657 on Reviewed in the United States on July 22, 2017
My wife and I had the cheaper Sunlight block for her bike, and that one was fine but definitely on the cheaper side. She got bigger tires for her road bike, and the other block seemed to have a hard time keeping the tire in place. When we moved to our new apartment the block went MIA, so I decided to order this one. When the boxes arrived (I ordered two) we were definitely surprised - I didn't think they would be quite so big. But they really do a great job at giving us a stable ride when we're using our bikes on a trainer. Also, the fact that the two blocks can stack to create a more strenuous workout is really neat. They're a little pricey (to me, anyway), but if these were to get lost during our next move I would feel comfortable spending the money on them again. They're very well built, very stable, and make me feel very comfortable on my bike. I'm 5'10" and around 200lbs, and my wife is 5'5" and 130 - both of us feel very stable on our bikes, even when we're in higher gears and peddling quite fast. We clip in to our pedals as well, and where the other block made me feel terrified of tipping over at any moment, thankfully this one doesn't give me the same dread.

Very Stable, but no "Level" Setting. Three nearly indistinguishable climbing settings.
By Alex Curtis on Reviewed in the United States on June 29, 2018
# This climbing block has three settings of inclines. Truthfully we are talking about fractions of a single degree difference in elevation between each setting. I really wanted to like this product, but it has a few minor design flaws. First the good stuff. It is 110% sturdy. Unlike other indoor trainer levels, this comes up much higher around the bike tire, giving you incredible stability. You can come up out of your saddle if you want and even get some side-to-side leaning action and it holds the bike stable. I really like this. My BIGGEST PROBLEM with this is that there is no setting that is perfectly level. I am using this with a Cycleops Magnus smart trainer, and with my 700c Road bike mounted on the trainer in the back, and this riser on its lowest setting in the front, my bike is at a 4 degree incline. This is more significant than it sounds. The issue I face with this is that while doing long 60-90 minute sessions at this incline, my seat causes a certain precious male body part in my loin region to fall asleep. The problem is that even though my bike is at an incline, my body rides forward like I am level, because I am on level ground. So the seat rides up so high in the front it causes problems. I can ride 100 mile gran fondos on this seat and these bike shorts, that is not the issue, its riding long sessions on flat ground with your seat protruding upward at 4 degrees makes for an unnatural ride. I could try to angle my seat downwards to compensate, but most seats aren't designed to be angled downward by 4 degrees, and having to adjust it back to level whenever I use the bike on the road would be a nightmare. Even if I did angle the seat unnaturally to compensate, now my head tube is significantly higher (by an inch or more), making aero position training sessions really awkward. Why isn't there a "level" option on this riser? I know its called a climbing block, but I assumed that one of the settings would be level and the other two would add a few degrees of incline each. But in reality, the three settings are nearly indistinguishable and there is no level setting. The other design i wish this had was small numbers stamped by each groove either to indicate degrees of elevation, or even just a setting 1, 2, and 3. Like I said, they are nearly indistinguishable. Using a tape measure I had to figure out which one was lowest, medium, and high. Just having this information stamped into the injection mold so it was part of the plastic would make this information useful. I will be going back to one of those cheap single tire riser blocks designed to keep you level. I wish I could use this, but with no level setting, it makes rides very miserable.
