Yes, you could use generic bags, but these fit exactly and are really sturdy. Took me a while, but I am now a convert. Worth the extra couple bucks.

Don’t fit.

Bought three sizes of trash can liners. None fit. Gave up and bought oversized bags at hardware store. Too much trouble to return original.
