We're not saying that all kids want to play with the same things. But we're also not saying they don't. It doesn't matter if your son wants a doll or an action figure, or if your daughter wants a tea set or a T-Bird model, what's important is that they're playing their way. The only time you should say "don't play with that" is if it's too dangerous. Otherwise, let them figure out what's fun for them, right?
