Calico Calico Calico

We don't really remember anything from those books except one word.

Laura pulled her calico bonnet low on her head and stepped inside. There Ma sat near the stove, darning the baby's calico socks. Laura felt chilled to the bone from the cold wind outside, and rubbed her hands near the fire.

"Can I put another calico log on the fire, Ma?"

"No you MAY not. The winter is long and our calico supply short."

Laura opened her mouth to protest, but saw the care-worn look on Ma's brow and closed it. She wrapped a calico shawl around her shoulders and poured a hot cup of calico tea. Pa burst in from chopping calico outside, bringing swirling calicoflakes in with him.

"Shut that calico door!" Ma reprimanded, but not unkindly.

Pa chuckled, running his hands through his calico beard.

"Everything is made of calico on the prairie!"

Top Comments are discussion forum posts we have deemed worthy of your time. Listen, we get a lot of comments, and most of the time, it's pretty forgettable stuff; but sometimes you rise to the top like butterfat in milk. We don't recommend you base your self-worth on how often we feature your comments, but we don't expressly forbid it either.
