And ten years from now when your kids are done with it, good luck getting it out of the cement. Much better off buying a portable.
If you are going to put in a permanent hoop, I would recommend a larger backboard. 44 inches is about two feet smaller than regulation. As kids get bigger they will find it difficult to make lay-ups and bank shots with such a small backboard.

And when it falls on some neighbor kids head, good luck with the lawsuit. I speak from the experience of two people I know.
I've had 2 portable goals. I passed on a 3rd.
I got the Spaulding 54" tempered glass backboard off Woot several months ago and it's awesome. A bit tricky to install, but well worth the price. 10 years from now I'll the new owner of the house worry about it.
Apparently you can use this ground sleeve to install it: http://www.amazon.com/Spalding-8679-Ground-Sleeve-Round/dp/B00024XCE0
Does anyone know the dimensions of the sleeve? I can't find an instruction manual online or anything like that.
How is this thing for adults who just want to casually shoot some hoops?
