I've already unlocked "free shipping".

I've been wanting to try cooking with cast iron.

Logo or not, Lodge is considered high quality in the cast iron market.

But, the pan is actually larger than what I was planning to start with.

But still ... tempted

Unless you want the logo and are willing to pay a premium, then why wouldn't you just order it without the logo from Amazon for less money?

I <3 Woot. I <3 Lodge CI. However I just can't justify another 12" CI pan.

I CAN justify another 8" CI pan. Or a dutch oven. Make either (or both) of these and I'll snap up at LEAST 1 of each!

Why not?

Cast iron is great to cook with. It heats evenly and retains it's heat for a long time. When it's time to clean your cookware use mild soap so as not to remove the seasoned coating. I use liquid hand soap. In those rare occasions you need to have them sandblasted, simply recoat your cast iron with Crisco or vegetable oil and cook them for a couple of hours in the oven, @250 degrees upside down on a baking/cookie sheet, for a couple of hours...and voila! Perfectly re-seasoned. However, I live in perpetual fear that one day I will drop it on our glass induction cooktop.

I'm thinking it has to do with the beginning of that sentence, the ridge around the bottom. You probably aren't getting enough contact then for it to work properly. That is all I can think of as to why because I've used cast iron pans on induction and they work great.

The pan DOES have a flat cooking surface - look at the second photo. The exclamation point is on the flip side of the pan.

Trying to decide whether to go for this (and the yummy geek factor) or wait for the New Lodge Signature series with the stainless steel helper handles. I'm afraid hubby will burn himself grabbing the handle on this, but it's not like he cooks often.

For full oven functionality it really needs a dome lid. Proper braising requires a cover. Product kind of misses the mark IMO. Better to go with the Dutch oven or vintage Descoware or new Le Creuset.

I own SEVERAL Lodge Logic cast iron cookware pieces. They are made in USA and very inexpensive compared to other comparable products. They also work great on induction cooktops.

I got this lid for my Woot! skillet for Christmas, and it fits perfectly.

In fact 2 nights ago I made chick etoufee in mine, and it came out very well, especially for a first attempt!

One nice thing is that the Lodge lid I linked slips over the skillet handle, so I can put them both on the same hook on my pot rack like I do with the rest of my pots and pans. Works very well, and I don't have any cabinet space taken up with random pot lids.

You could buy 7 of these, with matching lids, for the price of a Creuset. That's just bad advice, that is.

Never pay the "gourmet" premium.

Is the handle on this pan different than the generic Lodge one from Amazon? It kind of looks like a different metal.

I don't have direct experience, but it looks like this Lodge tempered glass lid will fit the Woot Lodge skillet: http://www.amazon.com/Lodge-Inch-Tempered-Glass-Lid/dp/B002R8JNSS/

Edit: That is if the Woot logo version is the same as the Lodge L10SK3 that everyone keeps comparing it to here.

Doesn't the logo create an uneven cooking surface? It seems pointless to have a cast iron skillet, but then have it cook unevenly... and seasoning with the logo must be a pain... I've been wanting a proper skillet for a while...

The logo is on the outside, so the cooking surface is even and seasoning won't be an issue.

I do wonder if the logo presents any difference in heat distribution. Anybody know?

I Love Cast Iron, and have a fondness for Woot. I don't feel the need to pay more than market value to be branded by or advertise for Woot.

If I needed another skillet, I'd get one of these. Considering the skillet I have now is three generations of cooks old, I'd be proud to start a tradition of passing down the woot! skillet.

I think the best part of passing down the skillet is that it makes an interesting story.

I already have a Lodge 12" cast iron skillet. Love it. It is my go to skillet for most everything. I'd like to think I could use a second one, but I know I really don't need it.

And eggs cook up fine in it most of the time, but you need to make sure the pan is well seasoned and well greased. Yes, that means butter. Ohmygosh!Ohmygosh!Ohmygosh!!!, butter!

If you don't have one, go for it. Better for you than so-called "non-stick" coatings. If a little iron gets in your food, that's a good thing. When modern chemical coating flakes off, that's a bad thing! Cook in cast iron, cook worry free.

OK. Lodge logic 12 inch skillet at Amazon is $18.97. I won't be buying this skillet for $24 from woot. With the free advertising they should be cheaper than Amazon (I know, amazon owns them), not $6 higher on sellout. Give these skillets to the local homeless shelter or something and get it over with. How many times will you try to sell these overpriced things to us?

This is $18.95 right now at walmart.

lstaff wrote:BUY!!! you won't be disappointed.

Beautifully seasoned, nonstick, large. I use mine for everything from eggs to deep dish pizza.

There is a raised ring on the bottom which is great as it keeps it from sliding around on my burner.

The only thing i haven't done yet is use it flipped over to make the woot! logo appear on a crepe or pancake.

Also, this is a discounted price!!!

Dilemma solved!

I already have the (non-woot-branded) 12" Lodge skillet and LOVE it. The non-stick attributes rival almost anything teflon-coated. With a little care this thing will last forever.. and, maybe it's in my head but I think food tastes better cooked on cast iron! The wife made chili on the stovetop yesterday in a 4qt Lodge Cast Iron Dutch Oven, but browned the meat in the skillet first.. it was amazing. You can take these things camping, use in the oven or stove top at home. The ONLY con is (obviously) it's heavy. She needs help poring things from it sometimes.

I would love to get this, but it isn't ceramic top stove friendly with that ridge. I kept debating whether the whole surface was raised or if it was a ridge. With a ridge, the center would not touch the heat source. Not sure it would work on those types of stoves.
