Sur La Tab's 9-inch professional are $20 each, so even at that you can barely make it to $130-$150 for a similar set, at a much better quality... Where is the list price coming from?

Where is the "like" button? You read my mind. Sometimes the "retail" value really boggles my mind...I minored in marketing and IIRC, retail values are largely fabricated.

I just purchased (2) 12" springform pans w/glass bottoms, and a 10" tall standard springform for about $6/ea. @ TJMaxx. Most of the time I purchase NSF-graded pans and other supplies @ a restaurant supply store since I have a pro cooking background. I would like to say that Cuisinart is NOT crap, and I own a bunch of their products. Also, Sur la Table is NOT all that. They have as much overpriced junk as Williams-Sonoma. This is a pretty decent starter set for the price. I would suggest comparing prices to your local restaurant supply co., as most of them sell to the public. Professional stuff last longer, works better and won't necessarily kill your budget since it's all pretty competitively priced.

"List Price" is also known as, "Manufacturer Suggested Retail Price or MSRP". So your answer is, the list is set by the manufacturer and not the dealer, in this case WOOT. While some MSRP's are set with only a reasonable mark-up, some are (as you correctly point out here) ridiculously high. It is basically a marketing ploy by the manufacturer to try to enhance sales by fabricating a "good deal". But as this MSRP is set by the manufacturer a seller is left to state the "list price" as what is already set as the MSRP. Another example of this practice that has been going on for decades is jewelry. The mark-up (cost to list) is tremendous. That is also the reason you can find stores that advertise, (for example) "all gold jewelry 60% off, every day". Invicta watches is another example. You can find models that list for $495.00 selling for $95 all day long. Cameras fall in to this also. If you pay "list price" for a camera you would be getting about as good a deal if you had paid "sticker price" on a car. There are probably hundreds if not thousands more examples all proving the same. But in the end, when a dealer states a "list price" they are correctly stating what the manufacturer list if for and not what they warrant it is worth. Check out independent reviews on about anything you are looking for and you most likely will find two prices. The review, lets use Consumer Report will state an item has a list price of $+++ and then they will state "with a street price of $***. The street price is obviously the average selling price commonly found as opposed to the list.

Is it just the picture? The muffin pan does not look like it has a nonstick interior. And many companies have for some time 'traded on their name'. If it is standard stuff made in China, $39.95 is not a bad price, but it is hardly worth $162.95 or whatever.

I purchased these a few weeks back and just received them. The picture makes some of the pans look like they are light. But all the pans are dark coated. I was hoping for light pans.

The donuts in the round pan crack me up every time.

Guess it's not a bad deal, but That is NO Sell-Out price I would never pay any more then that anymore..
