I don't know why this product makes me angry every time I see it. It's only appropriate if you're cutting up giraffe meat.

Was messing around at a mall the other day waiting for my wife to get done shopping, and I came across these Kuhn Rikon knifes and I took it out of the sheath. Instantly you can feel the quality of what appears to be a solid tang through the handle, and they have a good weight to it. Not too heavy, not too light, rather just right. That one paring knife was 9.99. This is a good deal.

My wife looks at Woot with me every night and she agrees with you! At least the zebra print knives are gone! Right?

These sell for $40 else where. Reviews indicate the non-stick coating doesn't come off the knife.

I think of it as the giraffes getting their sweet, sweet revenge on the rest of the animal kingdom.

In fairness past Wooters say these are sharp and fairly prices if you need new animal print knives. Just don't set them down on the giraffe carcass you are butchering because you will never be able to find them again.

I've said it before, I'll say it again: these are great knives. So says my mom (a chef) and me (...I can make toast).
They are surprisingly sharp. No peeling of the design, and we've had ours for months and months, and they are used daily. Dishwashed with no problems.
Love these knives.

I don't have the giraffe print ones, but I do have the zebra print ones... two sets' worth. I find I use the paring knife and the santoku-type blade most often. The cleaver, not so much.

They are very sharp, and they hold their edge well provided that you're not constantly chopping really hard things like raw sweet potatoes or carrots, etc. If you're doing regular kitchen stuff, and you're not slamming that blade down on the cutting board, they'll be just fine.

The print doesn't come off. (I'm still undecided as to whether or not that's a good thing.) They do wash well in the machine, and they do their job.

So if you can get beyond the fact that it has giraffe print on it, I'd say buy 'em.

Here is a size comparison, these things are smaller than woot makes them look.

Obligatory sharp knife story.

CowboyDann wrote:Hey guys be very careful with these knives. Despite the fact that they come in cute animal prints
They are still Very sharp.

I brought one of the earlier knives to a lunch BBQ at work and I handed it to a mechanic to cut some watermellon. He didn't believe me when I told him it was sharp (zebra print can be deceiving I suppose) and sliced his finger open on the first swipe cleaning off the blade. The knife cut right through the detail rag and into his finger! The cut wasn't too deep and he superglued it shut, but seriously be careful with these.

Giraffes were long thought to be silent, it was only recently discovered they made any noise at all and we can not hear it.

I bought a set earlier and the chefs in the family thought they were too cute to be taken seriously. After a several slices and a bandage or two they began showing the proper respect.
I never thought of giraffes as being particularly sharp, but there ya go!

I own two sets of these knives from a Woot offering many months ago. My expectations were that I would use the knives from first set and throw each one away when it became dull.
No siree.
I've resharpened each knife as needed and they have performed beautifully.
Very much worth the money.

Cheap junk, handles are not only cheap plastic but very slippery. They lose their "sharpness" very quickly. And with the patterns they can be difficult to see dirt on the blades.

So when cutting giraffe meat, do you go with or against the grain?

Is giraffe better braised or roasted, or does it depend on the cut?

My Sharp Knife Story:

I have the zebra print knives. I can confirm their sharpness. For Mother's Day I got: a trip to the ER, 4 stitches in my hand, and a tetanus shot to boot. (I won't post the picture) The knife slipped and I didn't even feel it cut me. The spurting blood was my first clue that something had gone horribly wrong.

Been using these knives for months. They go in the dishwasher every day. Still just as sharp and zebra-printy as the day I got them.

The adage, "you cut yourself more with a dull knife", only applies after learning how to cut without your fingers being in the way. After that, sharp knives are much easier to control/use, which minimizes mistakes caused by trying to force the knife through things.

I also think these are great knives. The cleaver is cute but not very useful, and $10 is the lowest I've seen these here.

It seems that they just can't get rid of the giraffe print. It is kind of a ridiculous look for anyone who hasn't fashioned their kitchen after Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge.

But these knives have sheaths, which means you can put them in a drawer and not have to look at them when you're not using them. Heck, you don't have to look at them when you ARE using them. . . that might be bad, though, if you enjoy having fingers.

I love these knives, but I don't have this particular set so I am missing the mini cleaver. Sounds like that is the least useful of all, but at this price I'm considering getting a set. My set came with a stand so it doesn't have the sheaths, these make good portable knives too.

I bought this set in a different print from a Woot sale not that long ago and was pleasantly surprised. Like others are saying they are really sharp. I may buy this one today to have an extra set because they are so nice and now are our go to knife in the kitchen. Really love them and am glad to hear people have sharpened them with no loss of the design.

the mini cleaver is actually really good for vegetables and anything that you're going to be doing a lot of chopping with. it will still be extremely sharp and you will save your chef's knife by not constantly banging it against a cutting board.

I bought these as a gift for my wife. I was was expecting them to be crappy but was pleasantly surprised at how sharp and balanced they were. They should have come with a giraffe knife sharpener as well but that's asking a lot considering how good the deal is to begin with.

I have the leopard print version of these. They lose their edge quickly but sharpen up nicely using the sharpener set (also bought of woot!)

Overall its a good deal.

Ordered my giraffe-skinning blades Thursdays an hour after they were put up for sale. I splurged and went with the 1-day shipping to have in time for a house warming party for a girl who I'm all like "Yeahh!!" about.

It's 6:30 and I have no knives and no shipping number. Looks like I'll be that pop quiz guy who is actually telling the truth when he says, "It's in the mail."

Thanks for nuttin', woot!

Aw man. We're sorry about that. The item has been shipped, but not as fast as we (or you) intended. The shipping cost has been refunded in full, and I've sent you a PM with the tracking number. Be sure and tell the girl that it was our fault. You were totally thoughtful and awesome! Show her this response for proof! Sorry again!
