honestly these suck, yes they will charge your laptop BUT in order to do so you have to press the button on the top. then when it thinks your battery is full it SHUTS OFF! so if your laptop is still on after it hits full charge this will not continue to charge it and you may return to a dead battery anyway. also due to the constant charging and discharging due to the above you will shorten the life of your battery since they only have so many cycles of charge in their life. in theory this was a good idea BUT i would not recc this. maybe if you need something to take on a trip as a cheap spare or something but just get a good replacement and you will be a lot happier.

What is the output of the usb port and the mAH? I want this to charge tablet and phones on the go, but if it can't power the tablet then I don't want to waste my time.

Many of the negative reviews seem to stem from people using this as a power cord replacement as opposed to an emergency portable power device.

It works fine, had it powering my Core i7 Toshiba 17 inch monster laptop. It gets pretty warm if you push it, but that extra USB port is handy for charging stuff.

yes, it's got that extra power button for you to turn it on or off. It's just one more push, sheesh. if you hate it that much, look for its predecessor, the "non-green" version. No USB port, no button to push.

EDIT: iGo website says USB port has 0.76A at 5V.

This is a great travel charger (at least for me!) works well with my Dell Vostro laptop, it has a surge suppressor in it plus multiple tips. I have never had it turn itself off when my laptop battery has finished charging, just continues working as an AC power cord! You do have to remember to turn it on when it is first plugged into a wall outlet. The cigarette adapter works well too. The added bonus of a USB charging port makes simultaneous charging of my Mifi hot spot or cell phone really easy! Probably could also use it to charge tablets (like the Samsung Galaxy)which have USB charging cables.

This is a good deal IMO, tempted to get another as a back-up at this price!

According to its manufacturer page

http://www.igo.com/laptop-travel-charger-igo-greenr/invt/ps001330004/#moreinfo

It puts out 0.76A for the USB, 5 volts. I ASSume that's using the USB port alone and not charging something else at the same time.

Since this comes up a lot, no, they don't publish specs on their tips. Instead, they want you to look up your exact device on iGo.com so you won't fry your device by using the wrong tip. If your device isn't listed and you order anyway, you're on your own.

If you need one of the free tips, the package includes a website you can order it from which might be more convenient than the 800 number.

The final output voltage varies depending on the tip, but is appropriate for the devices the tip is specified for.

I'm not sure why the lithium battery shipping disclaimer applies here. As far as I know, it does not contain any batteries itself.

Won't support a tablet through usb. As another pointed out, output on usb is 5v@ 0.76A. Most tablet need 2.1A and more like 11v.

Thank you and the other positive feedback. I have other iGo products and really like them and their environmental friendliness, so I ordered first, then started reading the comments. I'm feeling very good about my order, now.

You can have it on "charge all the time" mode, or on "green mode" where it's supposed to check every 15 minutes to see if your device needs power. Says so in the instructions. Mine works great as a replacement for my HP charger that started burning from the inside out.

You can go to iGo.com and type "powertips" in the search box. That will take you to what you need for your devise. Some of the tips are free but others cost.

I purchased a couple of these a few weeks ago form one of the Woot sites (don't recall which).

In fact I'm using one of them right now as I type this.

So far I've used the adapters to power and/or charge:
* Lenovo T420
* HP Pavilion DM4 series (I think it was a 2165dx)
* Toshiba Satellite L755
* HTC Radar 4G
* LG MyTouchQ 4G
* LG C900
* Kindle 2nd gen
* Kindle 3rd gen (non-touch, non-kybd)

The charger seems to get warm, but otherwise I've had no complaints at all, and have been very happy with the chargers.

So much so, I've been trying to find a reason to order another at this price, but I've got no need.

I HATE MINE! It never charges the battery unless the computer it turn on (it shuts off if the computer goes into sleep mode). If the laptop has a dead battery it is hard to get it to turn on and stay on long enough to get the laptop booted, etc etc. I've tried to leave it in 'Charge all the time mode' and it fails.

Don't use the USB port then. Use the proper tip for the tablet. They sell microUSB tips if that's what it needs.

We used to sell these in RadioShack. Never did like them as they were a bit faulty with their cutoff switches. It seems that they try to save power a bit TOO much...

That being said, for $20 it really doesn't matter if it dies in a few months or so considering it does save some power when it doesn't malfunction.

I have two of these running an Acer and a Lenovo. Neither combination has the problem you describe. If ether laptop is on the PS states on with it. My Acer runs on it continuously without issue.

There's no mAh, because this IS NOT a portable power device. This IS, however, a "power-cord replacement." Again, this does NOT have a built-in battery, so don't expect to charge your laptop or your tablet or whatever if it's not plugged in.

The negative reviews are justified -- as a "power-cord replacement" it's just not very good. It's small, and ok if you're on the go and just need something small to occasionally top off your charge. At 90W, it's not beefy enough for full-size laptops, and the "green mode" is a hassle for most.

If you don't know what you are talking about, better don't try! He is asking for the Max current output and may be did a typo - instead of mAh he should have asked mA. That is also a question that intrigues me. If its 1.5 or more I am in 4 1.

I bought one of these a couple of woots ago. I take my laptop to work every day, and then pack it up again to go home. Seems many things grow legs in the middle of the night at my workplace, so I wanted a cheap power supply that I could leave on my desk and not worry about if it too suddenly became "mobile". That way, I didn't have to wrap and stow the cord every day, plus getting to the wall plug requires a deep desk dive twice a day in this scenario.

This has worked great for me, for that purpose. No more desk diving, no more cord wrapping/stowing, and when it's time to go, I just unplug the laptop, and GO. Hey, Fred Flinstone has nothing on me when it's quitting time! (Yes, you probably have to be a dinosaur to get that reference!!)

Anyway, I don't have any problems with it turning off once I turn it on as some others have noted. I just manually turn it on in the morning, and that's it.

I'll be contemplating buying a backup all day today. So, if you're on the fence, better buy it now...or later might be too late..;)

It says 11-16v, at 90w /15v the amps would be 6, as an example
ps I looked at other sites, and the output is 19vdc, amps would
around 4.7

At work (computer repair place) we use a few of these as half of the customers don't bring theirs in. I've never had a problem with it, just have to remember to hit the button once each time you connect it to the outlet and laptop.

I've left them connected overnight on computers running stress tests more times than I can remember without any problems. Used them on any sort of laptop (including countless broken ones) aside from netbooks with incompatible DC jacks and big desktop replacements that require entirely too much power. I regularly recommend them to customers who have lost or broken their original ones, would buy if I needed one myself.

I bought mine a couple months ago from Woot at $30.

I have had the iGo in my laptop bag for several trips lately and I can wholeheartedly recommend it. With it, you're powered up in vehicles or on planes with 12V outlets. In the office or hotel room your set to keep your laptop charged and I use the USB port to top up my other devices.

It's slim and very portable. I haven't seen the same kind of "touchy turn itself off" behavior some others have reported. I have seen it turn itself off after charging a shutdown computer but never when it is connected to something powered up.

All in all, at this price I plan to pick up a second one. For the road warriors out there, you won't be disappointed.

I'm not a battery expert but I've done some research because of my own problems with laptop batteries. First, modern Lithium-Polymer and Lithium Ion batteries do not have a memory so they aren't required to fully charge and fully discharge, although they so have a protection circuit so you shouldn't completely discharge them.

Now, you are correct that there are only a certain amount of life cycles to a battery. This number is greatly increased if you don't fully discharge the battery before recharging. This may make you want to keep it on the charger all day.

The problem is, it's also greatly decreased by the charging level. Most manufacturers top the level off so they can brag longer life in their specs while knowingly decrease the charge cycles (so you buy a new battery). There are only a few manufacturers that let you specify the charge level.

The chemical process that degrades battery life is accelerated by heat. Charging a battery to 100% of its capacity will generate more heat then charging to 60% or 80%. The difference in battery life and how fast a battery discharges is immense with only 10% or so reduction in the top level of charge.

Since you're most likely already charging to 100%, keeping it constantly on will probably generate quite a lot more heat than charging to 100% and then discharging for a while.

So, again, in my opinion, this may be a pain, but I think it might be a bug-as-feature and actually increase battery life it you turn it back on when you get to 30-40%.

Heavy Duty !

Actually 1.6 POUNDS of heavy duty in its travel bag with all the cables.

Handy and useful but weighs almost as much as my ACER notebook.

BTW the ACER charger + cables weigh just a little over one-half pound.

You aren't going to slip this sucker into your pocket "just in case".

But I like mine !

I purchased this when it was on Wooten a few weeks ago and have had two duds thus far. The first one wouldn't charge anything and it took a week for customer service respond. Don't try to call them or use the form online for service. The only way they respond is if you send an email to their support email address. They did send out a whole new package/charger, but now the second one makes a hissing sound and gets extremely hot. I have just received a notification email that a third one was sent. Lets hope this works. I don't want to spend money to ship it back when it is defective.

I have one of these and have not had that problem. It fully charges my laptop and stays on once I hit a full charge. Maybe its either a faulty charger or how the laptop pulls power? I've had mine for 2 or 3 years now and couldn't be happier.

I found this engineer in a previous post that had a great answer regarding this:

http://deals.woot.com/deals/details/06740978-2d13-4078-9252-b514dcf73516/igo-universal-90-watt-slim-notebook-ac-adapter

props to 1110228

Electrical engineer (faculty) here.
I would say that unless your notebook is really old, you don't have to worry about the voltage output of this adapter.
Reasons:
1) Based on what is on the market today, most of these adapters have a maximum voltage output of 19V (absolute maximum), and all of them feature current sensing circuit (a relatively simple IC implementation) to determine the correct output voltage. Your notebook very likely runs on 14 V-ish (four-cell li-ion in series) or 11 V-ish (three cell in series). The charging rate is pre-determined, and can be estimated easily. So don't worry about that.
2) This adapter provides 90 W, and if true, will provide enough power for even the most demanding notebooks. Most notebooks only need no more than 60 W.
3) ALL notebooks provide their own charging circuit inside the box. These regulators have high tolerance on over-under-voltage. You will be fine.
For the price, this is a good deal. It's pretty light, too.

I bought one of these last time around (for $25). I bought it as a backup charger for a Dell XPS. The only issue that I have with it is that the XPS wants a 125W charger, and this thing only puts out about 90W (according to the complaint window my XPS displays when it is plugged in with this).

The reality though is that I have never seen a problem, as the XPS generally has a decent charge already when plugged in. $20 is well worth the price as a backup charger for a second location, however it may not be suitable for an all day laptop use session, if your lappie requires more than 90W.

I bought one of these at Radio Shack several years ago when, on vacation, I realized I had forgotten the power cord for my Sony Vaio and this was my only local option.
The ONLY issue I've ever had was my own fault, forgetting to press the button on it. Beyond that, it was a great purchase, well worth what I paid- which was MUCH more than $20!
I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a replacement power cord or just a backup. Check that they have a tip compatible with your machine though.
